19-year-old Weymouth man accused of stomping family’s chihuahua 'Coco’ to death

A 19-year-old man is accused of stomping a family’s chihuahua to death on Memorial Day in Weymouth, according to police.
Officers responded around 3:35 p.m. on Monday to a call from an apartment on Lake Street claiming that Shykeim Basden killed a dog at the home, according to a statement from the Weymouth Police Department
“When officers arrived on scene, the witness informed officers that she observed the family dog, ‘Coco,’ a chihuahua, being stomped on numerous times by [Basden],” the statement said.
Basden is suspected of fleeing the apartment with the dog in his arms. A family member at the scene believed the Weymouth resident was going to throw Coco’s body in Whitmans Pond, according to police.
Authorities searched the shore of the pond and found the dog’s body behind a home on Josies Way, police said.
