23-year-old indicted on murder, robbery charges in connection to 2021 gas station shooting​

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County grand jury indicted a man accused of shooting and killing a man at a gas station in northeast Columbus nearly three years ago.

Dontrell Jaynes, 23, was charged with aggravated murder and aggravated robbery in connection with the shooting death of 62-year-old David Gaines on Jan. 6, 2021.



Police were called to the Sunoco gas station at 1799 East Hudson Street where they found Gaines who was shot. He was taken to Grant Medical Center where he later died.

Detectives did not provide additional information on what led up to the incident.

Police said he is currently being held at the Ross Correctional Institution where he is serving a prison sentence for an unrelated crime.
