Asians arrested for torture/mutilation of slave girl
Mystery clouds identity of orphan girl sold like slaves among expats
KUWAIT CITY: Sixteen Asians — men and women — have been detained for interrogation following the alleged escape of a nine-year-old ‘orphan’ girl from an apartment in Hawalli who had been held captive and forced to do house work, reports Al-Rai daily. During interrogation some of the arrested persons are said to have admitted to forcing the girl to work for them. They also admitted to torturing the girl by burning her with cigarette butts and amputating her fingers because she did not work to their satisfaction. The source added the victim has been referred to Forensics and the Asians are charged with holding the girl captive, torturing her and using the apartment for gambling and prostitution.
Meanwhile, the daily said, police are looking for the parents of the girl. Some local dailies said according to information reaching police, the girl was auctioned among Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi families living in apartments. One of the families allegedly bought the girl for KD 300 and she worked for them. The family also said they had planned to sell her to another family because they were in need of money. Unidentified sources said the girl speaks some Arabic and Bengali. Earlier it was reported police raided the apartment after the girl escaped her captors and filed a complaint with the Jabriya Police Station about the immoral activities being practiced inside an apartment.
