There are over 92 different health side effects associated with aspartame consumption. It seems surreal, but true. How can one chemical create such chaos?

Aspartame dissolves into solution and can therefore travel throughout the body and deposit within any tissue. The body digests aspartame unlike saccharin, which does not break down within humans.

The multitude of aspartame side effects are indicative to your genetic individuality and physical weaknesses. It is important to put two and two together, nonetheless, and identify which side effects aspartame is creating within you.

Aspartame Side Effects

The components of aspartame can lead to a number of health problems, as you have read. Side effects can occur gradually, can be immediate, or can be acute reactions.

According to Lendon Smith, M.D. there is an enormous population suffering from side effects associated with aspartame, yet have no idea why drugs, supplements and herbs don’t relieve their symptoms. Then, there are users who don’t ‘appear’ to suffer immediate reactions at all. Even these individuals are susceptible to the long-term damage caused by excitatory amino acids, phenylalanine, methanol, and DKP.

Adverse reactions and side effects of aspartame include:

Eye
blindness in one or both eyes
decreased vision and/or other eye problems such as: blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision, decreased night vision
pain in one or both eyes
decreased tears
trouble with contact lenses
bulging eyes

Ear
tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound
severe intolerance of noise
marked hearing impairment

Neurologic
epileptic seizures
headaches, migraines and (some severe)
dizziness, unsteadiness, both
confusion, memory loss, both
severe drowsiness and sleepiness
paresthesia or numbness of the limbs
severe slurring of speech
severe hyperactivity and restless legs
atypical facial pain
severe tremors

Psychological/Psychiatric
severe depression
irritability
aggression
anxiety
personality changes
insomnia
phobias

Chest
palpitations, tachycardia
shortness of breath
recent high blood pressure

Additional Symptoms of Aspartame Toxicity include the most critical symptoms of all
death
irreversible brain damage
birth defects, including mental retardation
peptic ulcers
aspartame addiction and increased craving for sweets
hyperactivity in children
severe depression
aggressive behavior
suicidal tendencies

Aspartame may trigger, mimic, or cause the following illnesses:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Epstein-Barr
Post-Polio Syndrome
Lyme Disease
Grave’s Disease
Meniere’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)

These are not allergies or sensitivities, but diseases and disease syndromes. Aspartame poisoning is commonly misdiagnosed because aspartame symptoms mock textbook ‘disease’ symptoms, such as Grave’s Disease.

Aspartame changes the ratio of amino acids in the blood, blocking or lowering the levels of serotonin, tyrosine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and adrenaline. Therefore, it is typical that aspartame symptoms cannot be detected in lab tests and on x-rays. Textbook disorders and diseases may actually be a toxic load as a result of aspartame poisoning.

Ever gone to the doctor with real, physical symptoms, but he/she can’t find the cause? Well, it’s probably your diet, your environment, or both.

Aspartame is the common denominator for over 92 different health symptoms at the root of modern disease. The Aspartame Detoxification Program demonstrates the most effective way to reverse disease symptoms is removing the underlying cause - aspartame.

I counsel aspartame victims worldwide and have witnessed nine out of 10 clients restore their health by following the Aspartame Detoxification Program. Begin with detoxifying your body of all residual chemical toxins from aspartame's chemical make up of phenylalanine, aspartic acid and methanol and their toxic by-products, and see if any adverse health symptoms remain. Try the Aspartame Detoxification Program, and within 30 days your symptoms should disappear.

Steps:
1.Remove all sugar-free products with aspartame from your diet.
2.Learn to 'read' your body. Begin recording any health changes.
3.Get a hair analysis.
4.Be happy with yourself.
5.Detoxify.
6.Restore depleted nutrients.
7.Exercise and get plenty of rest.
8.Eat 75% raw foods at every meal.
9.Drink water, water, water.
10.Get control of your life.

I designed this Ten Step Program to help protect your health and the health of those you love from being seduced by the sugar-free diet craze. Wishing you good health.

What can you do about aspartame side effects?

Set an example by changing your diet.
•Tell everyone you know.
•Talk to the schools and day care centers. Offer to speak at parent-teachers meetings.
•Contact your local, state, and Federal government representatives.
•If you see someone with a diet drink, ask if they have had any of the typical aspartame side effects.
•Spread the word at your work.
•Distribute the Aspartame Consumer Safety Network and Pilot's Hotline
•Tell your doctor about the scientific research available proving the negative side effects of aspartame.
•Register a complaint with the FDA, the FAA, the NutraSweet Company about aspartame poisoning.
•Return all food products with aspartame, opened or unopened, to your grocer. Tell him/her the products make you sick. The grocer can return them to the manufacturer for a store refund. The manufacturer should get the message. So, will the grocer.
•Spread the word on computer networks.
•Publish articles in newsletters at your church, place of work, or neighborhood association.
•Set a personal example for health and wellness.

Aspartame: Putting the DIE Into Dieting Since 1981

Male rat with lymphoma following aspartame treatment.

Pushed globally as a beneficial to dieters since its approval in 1981, accumulating research indicates that aspartame may actually damage the brain and cause cancer, to name but a few of a wide range of adverse health effects consumers risk by using this ‘no-calorie’ sugar alternative.

Google “aspartame” and you will find http://www.aspartame.org/ in search result position #1. Billing itself as an ‘Aspartame Information Center,’ this website opens with “The Benefits of Aspartame,” discussing how as a ‘low-calorie’ sweetener aspartame helps consumers with weight control, diabetes and the prevention of tooth decay.

The website is the creation of an organization calling itself the Calorie Control Council (CCC), a non-profit association established in 1966 whose public mission is “…to provide an objective channel of scientific-based communications about low-calorie foods and beverages, to assure that scientific and consumer research and information is made available to interested parties.”

Ironically, Aspartame.org contains virtually no reference to primary scientific literature, rather, opts for an appeal to authority, listing a series of “Expert Opinions” on the presumed safety of aspartame. Examples include “Science Experts,” e.g. American Diabetic Association, “Consumer Experts,” e.g. Snopes.com, “Regulatory Experts,” e.g. FDA, and even lists its own sponsoring organization – the CCC – as an example of an “Industry Expert,” even though its mission statement clearly identifies itself as a propaganda arm of the global low- and reduced-calorie food and beverage industry:

“The Council’s mission is to foster industry growth and vitality by reinforcing and expanding the Calorie Control Council’s role as a globally trusted authority on the safety and benefits of ingredients, foods, and beverages to facilitate the control of calories.” [emphasis added]

Of course, there is no mention of the dozens of adverse health effects linked to aspartame in the peer-viewed biomedical literature itself, and which GreenMedInfo.com indexes and provides free access to in order to provide a non-industry sponsored Aspartame Information Center.

Before we look at some of the science on aspartame’s toxicity that the industry would like consumers to overlook, let’s first debunk the primary claims put forward by the CCC’s website about aspartame’s presumptive health benefits.

According to the CCC’s website, aspartame is good for maintaining a healthy weight and for satisfying the diabetic’s sweet tooth “without affecting blood sugar.” And yet, one of the characteristic issues with all non-nutritive sweeteners is that when you separate caloric content from the taste of sweetness you ‘short circuit’ one of the most ancient, hard-wired physiological pathways in the human body. After millions of year of evolution, our bodies were designed to anticipate the immediate availability of a simple carbohydrate (i.e. “sugar”) following the sensation of sweetness, and indeed, it automatically produces gastric secretions when tasting sweetness in what is known as the cephalic phase (cephalic = “head”) of the act of eating, the initial phase before food enters the stomach involving taste, smell, thought, etc., which accounts for approximately 20% of the gastric secretions associated with eating a meal.

This means that aspartame’s intense sweetness will cause the release of neurochemicals such as dopamine and pancreatic hormones such as insulin, that latter of which signals the cellular upregulation of glucose intake. If no glucose is available, this could result in hypoglycemia and/or elevated levels of insulin, further stimulating appetite and molecular processes associated with fat-storage. This same effect may help to explain why Splenda (sucrlose) was recently found to have diabetes-promoting properties. [1]

Non-nutritive sweeteners, therefore, are not ideal weight control or diabetes aids. They could be considered endocrine disrupters, due to the way in which they disrupt the normal release of hormones like insulin, and likely contribute to insulin resistance, as well as stimulating the release of various neurochemicals that could produce addictive behavior and/or over-eating. In fact, a 2012 study published in the journal Appetite actually found that saccharin and aspartame, compared with sucrose, induce greater weight gain in adult rats, at similar total caloric intake levels.[2]

One of the primary reasons why consumers seek out sugar alternatives is because of the well-known increase in dental problem such as cavities in those who consume sugar-sweetened products. While aspartame is less cariogenic than sucrose, recent research published in the journal Archives of Oral Biology indicates that it does in fact contribute to the demineralization of enamel through both stimulating acidity and bacterial biofilm formation.[3] There is, therefore, no real scientific credibility to the CCC’s website claim that “Aspartame Does Not Promote Tooth Decay.”

Now that we have debunked two prevailing myths associated with aspartame’s perceived “benefits,” let’s move to a few of its known harms.

In 2006, the Cesare Maltoni Cancer Research Center of the European Ramazzini Foundation of Oncology and Environmental Sciences released a study which revealed that aspartame can induce a wide range of malignancies in rodents, including lymphoma and leukemia, concluding that aspartame is a potential carcinogen at doses much less (20 mg/kg bw) than the current acceptable daily intake (ADI) for humans in Europe (40 mg/kg bw) and in the United States (50 mg/kg bw). .[4]

A follow-up study published in 2007 confirmed and reinforced aspartame’s “multipotential carcinogenicity” at a dose level close to the ADI for humans, including the discovery that fetal exposure results in increasing its carcinogenic effects later in life.[5]

More recently, a 2012 study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, which assessed dietary pattern data from the Nurses’ Health Study (NHS) and Health Professionals Follow-Up Study (HPFS), found that men who consumed 1 or more servings of diet soda a day had on average a 31% increased risk of non-Hodgkins lymphoma and 102% increased risk of multiple myeloma, in comparison to men without diet soda consumption.

Finally, this year, a study published in the Polish medical journal Folia Neuropathologica discussed a commonly overlooked aspect of aspartame’s carcinogenicity. Aspartame, which the researchers describe as a “highly hazardous compound,” produces a metabolite known as diketopiperazine, which they described as contributing to the formation of tumors in the central nervous system such as gliomas, medullobastomas and meningiomas.[6] Indeed, the hypothesis that increasing brain tumor rates in the US may be linked to increasing aspartame consumption goes all the way back to 1996 in the biomedical literature.[7]

The reality is that all the peer-reviewed and published scientific research in the world either for or against aspartame’s safety will not take away the most fundamental fact of toxicology: 10% of aspartame breaks down into methanol, a highly toxic compound, which itself is oxidized to the carcinogenic substance formaldehyde. It has also been hypothesized that oxidative stress caused by hydrogen peroxide release during catalase-induced metabolism of methanol to formaldehyde may contribute to aspartame’s carcinogenicity.

For an excellent analysis of how the aspartame metabolite methyl alcohol (methanol) causes far greater bodily harm than previous animal research has demonstrated, read “Toxicology Expert Explains Why Aspartame is so Dangerous to Your Health” on Mercola.com.

One of the most well known problems with aspartame is that it contains 40% aspartic acid by weight, which after being ingested, metabolized and released in its free form, can generate excitotoxicity, meaning it is capable of stimulating neurons to the point of cell death. Plenty of animal research has demonstrated that aspartame caused brain damage and cognitive issues,[8] and preliminary human research indicates that fibromyalgia patients may see improvement when removing this excitotoxin from their diets.[9] [10] For more information on the brain-damaging potential of aspartame read our article: Aspartame: Safety Approved in 90 Nations, But Damages Brain.

Beyond cancer-promoting and brain-damaging properties, aspartame like any chemical that does not belong in the human body is just another avoidable chemical exposure that we should go to great lengths to eliminate, as it will likely contribute to the entire gamut of diseases that commonly afflict opulent societies who rather than reduce the over consumption of nutritive sweeteners would rather attempt to trick and/or poison themselves with non-nutritive ‘alternatives.’ For more information on aspartame’s adverse health effects go to our research page on the topic: http://www.greenmedinfo.com/toxic-ingredient/aspartame

When it comes to dieting, stick with the moderate consumption of naturally sweet foods, especially high-quality, organically-produced fruits. There are also sweet substances, such as honey, xylitol and even stevia, that may provide a natural alternative to synthetic/artificial sweeteners. But be forewarned, even natural low- or no-calorie sweeteners may participate in unintended, adverse consequences of divorcing caloric content from the sensation of sweetness, subsequently stimulating appetite ‘back lash.’

As long as we remember that no form of dieting is worth dying for, and try to stay away from ‘tricking’ our body into thinking its getting something its not, we should be able to reach our ideal weight by exerting a good balance of patience and discipline with ourselves.

CONFIRMED: Aspartame linked to blood cancers according to 22-year study conducted by researchers at Women’s Hospital at Harvard University

Wednesday, November 14, 2018 by: S.D. Wells

Link: https://www.naturalnews.com/2018-11-14-aspartame-linked-to-blood-cancers.html

(Natural News) Monsanto, the most evil corporation on Earth, may be responsible for more chronic deterioration of human health than any other manufacturer of food and agricultural chemicals. From genetically modifying crops to spraying them with the known carcinogen glyphosate (main ingredient in Roundup weed killer), from nuclear weapons to terminator seeds (they die after one year), and from petroleum-based fertilizers to cancer-causing Agent Orange in Vietnam, you’ve heard enough horrific Monsanto stories to last you a lifetime, even if that lifespan is shortened from consuming their chemicals.

Now, a 22-year study done on humans by researchers at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital at Harvard proves that aspartame, another Monsanto “Frankenfood” creation, is responsible for health “monsters” (deadly chronic conditions) that most medical doctors blame on anything and everything but the real root cause. It’s time to know all the facts and learn about the research conducted.

Top 20 SCARY facts about aspartame

•Deaths have been reported from aspartame consumption.

•Aspartame is made from the excretions of genetically modified E. coli bacteria.

•Aspartame is responsible for three times more adverse events reported by consumers to the FDA than from MSG, HFCS and GMOs combined.

•Headaches and severe migraines are the most common sufferable conditions reported.

•Seizures (including epileptic ones) have been reported, especially when aspartame is consumed on an empty stomach, such as when people drink diet sodas instead of eating breakfast.

•Aspartame consumption is linked to weight gain.

•Aspartame consumption is linked to chronic depression.

•Aspartame consumption is linked to compounding asthma problems.

•Aspartame is found in more than 5,000 products.

•Aspartame is the most consumed synthetic sweetener in USA.

•Aspartame is comprised of 40 percent aspartic acid, 50 percent phenylalanine, and 10 percent methanol (wood alcohol).

•Aspartame is genetically modified in a laboratory.

•Excitotoxins over stimulate (overdose) human brain cells until they die.

•Aspartame depletes serotonin – the natural hormone that controls anxiety.

•The dangerous combination of aspartame’s ingredients convert into
formaldehyde (highly toxic embalming fluid for the dead) that accumulates in the body.

•Aspartame consumption is linked to prostate cancer

•Aspartame consumption is linked to breast cancer.

•Aspartame is known to dramatically feed other cancers, including worsening brain cancer and enlarging tumors, according to Harvard 22-year study on humans.

•Aspartame can cause and exacerbate irritable bowels syndrome (IBS).

•Men who consume more than one diet soda per day increase their risk of developing blood cancers, including multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

•Leukemia (another blood cancer) risk is heightened for men and women who consume diet soda containing aspartame.

•Aspartame fuels metabolic syndrome.

Aspartame – New massive long-term, human-based study reveals the dangers of consuming the most EVIL food additive on planet Earth

The diet soda craze in America started decades ago when the mass media convinced women that having a curvy figure meant you were fat, and the only way to “fix it” was to cut out all sugar consumption by eating and drinking “diet” everything. Hardly a soul knew that Artificial Sweetener Disease (ASD) would be sweeping the nation shortly after, and medical doctors would misdiagnose it at every turn, mainly since M.D.s have little-to-no nutritional education from Big Pharma-funded medical schools.

The power of the elements: Discover Colloidal Silver Mouthwash with quality, natural ingredients like Sangre de Drago sap, black walnut hulls, menthol crystals and more. Zero artificial sweeteners, colors or alcohol. Learn more at the Health Ranger Store and help support this news site.

Consumers looking to cut calories or sugar intake should look to Stevia or monk fruit instead of something dangerous that’s made in a laboratory using bacteria. Not only can aspartame feed deadly cancers, but it also increases your risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CD), according to another mind-blowing study conducted at the University of Iowa. Older women who suck down this deadly synthetic nightmare increase their risk of dying from CD by 50 percent (and you thought it was just animal fat, vegetable shortening, and canola that caused cardiovascular disease).

Diet soda sales are shrinking due to increased consumer awareness about Aspartame dangers. If you’re interested in losing weight or just maintaining your ideal weight, simply clean up what you eat and drink by consuming mainly raw, organic produce and using natural sweeteners that have low (or no) calories. Rule of thumb: Never consume anything made in a laboratory by the companies and corporations that benefit financially from wrecking your health. Tune into Aspartame.news for more updates on the most toxic food additive still being consumed on Planet Earth.

Many of us already knew that "Aspartame" aka "Amino Sweet" is poisonous to our brains and bodies and in this latest report it well describes just how much that is the case:

Aspartame now being marketed as natural sweetener, name changed to 'AminoSweet'

(NaturalNews) The world's most toxic artificial sweetener is undergoing a major identity overhaul in an effort by its manufacturer to cover up the chemical's sordid history, as well as to keep people buying it. "AminoSweet," in case you see it on food labels, is really just plain-old aspartame, the same synthetic sweetening agent that's repeatedly been linked to causing seizures and organ damage, among other physical harm.

Since its initial discovery in 1965 by G.D. Searle Pharmaceuticals, aspartame has been the subject of considerable and unrelenting controversy. Even way back then, scientists knew without a shadow of a doubt that aspartame wasn't exactly safe for human consumption. But because it was sweet and non-caloric, it meant dollar signs in the eyes of company CEOs who recognized that marketing it as an alternative to sugar could be immensely profitable.

They were right, but the decision to bring aspartame to market – a monstrous feat in and of itself – has had serious consequences on public health. Derived from genetically-modified (GM) amino acids, aspartame is the world's most popular artificial sweetener, present in everything from chewing gum and soda pop to children's cereals and even toothpastes, despite the fact that its track record of safety leaves much to be desired.

Numerous peer-reviewed studies published in the 1980s revealed that aspartame has a damaging effect on the brain. Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) discovered that aspartame "can generate major neurochemical changes" in the brain. Since it's an "excitotoxin," aspartame is known to damage the brain, as well as the central nervous systems of people who consume it, especially children.

One study published in the journal Neurotoxicology and Teratology in 1984 concluded that excitotoxins like aspartame "may produce blood elevations high enough to cause damage to the nervous system of young children, damage which is not detectable at the time of occurrence but which may give rise to subtle disturbances in neuroendocrine function in adolescence and/or adulthood."

Many more studies conducted in the 1990s, 2000s, and beyond have reiterated these findings, adding that aspartame consumption can impair memory response and retention and damage neurons in the hypothalamic region of the brain. Mental retardation and various other forms of brain damage have also been linked to aspartame consumption, side effects that the federal government in its continued approval of the chemical drug refuses to address.

NutraSweet, Equal, and AminoSweet: It's all still aspartame

Despite continued efforts by industry lobbyists and their government puppets to keep this damaging information about aspartame under wraps, the internet and other uncontrolled environments where news is disseminated have succeeded in waking many people up as to its dangers. But now consumers have to worry about name changes like "AminoSweet" that attempt to once again pull the wool over their eyes when it comes to detecting artificial sweeteners in the foods they eat.

Since acquiring ownership of the aspartame business from Monsanto in 2000, Japanese drug company Ajinomoto has been working hard to rebrand and recreate aspartame in order to boost its acceptance by the public. One of these is renaming it to sound more "natural," even though it's still the same old chemical that's also sold under names like "NutraSweet" and "Equal."

While sugar has its own health drawbacks, it's nowhere near the level of aspartame's threat. The list of aspartame's health effects is lengthy, including serious damaging effects like brain lesions, lymphoma, leukemia, and other forms of cancer, not to mention fetal deformities and even weight gain – that's right, consuming aspartame instead of sugar can still make you fat. Just remember this: buyer beware.

Bombshell study shows aspartame depletes neurotransmitters in the brain, makes brains vulnerable to chemical damage from food and vaccines

Monday, December 17, 2018 by: Mike Adams

Link: https://www.naturalnews.com/2018-12...otransmitters-in-the-brain-5g-pesticides.html

(Natural News) A bombshell scientific study reveals that aspartame may be one of the most damaging vectors for the widespread “dumbing down” of humanity. Published in AJTCAM (African Journal of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicines), the study is entitled, “IMPACT OF ASPARTAME CONSUMPTION ON NEUROTRANSMITTERS IN RAT BRAIN.” (Source)

The study fed rats aspartame for durations of 10 – 40 days, then decapitated the rats and analyzed their brains. From the abstract, “Blood and brain tissue were collected for biochemical analysis. Biochemical analysis of brain tissue includes neurotransmitters (Acetylcholine, epinephrine, norepinephrine, ?-aminobutyric acid and serotonin). Serum for determination of lipid peroxidation (MDA), reduced glutathione and superoxide dismutase (SOD).”

Shocking results show aspartame eviscerated brain neurotransmitters

The results of the study found a dose-dependent relationship between aspartame consumption and the destruction of neurotransmitters — brain chemicals necessary for the function of neurons.

“Brain neurotransmitters levels (serotonin, GABA and dopamine) were reduced significantly compared with control,” the study says. Furthermore, levels of brain antioxidants that protect brain tissue from oxidation damage — often caused by chemical exposure — were sharply depleted. “…[D]ata obtained showed that antioxidant activities (SOD and GSH) were reduced significantly,” the study reports.

The conclusion of the study found that, “Consumption of [aspartame] for a long time increased oxidative stress in brain tissue and disruption in neurotransmitters that affect physiological functions.”

Huge reduction in serotonin and sharp increase in epinephrine may explain the chemical alteration of the masses

The study found that serotonin levels were reduced by nearly 74% (with some margin of error) in rats that consumed 125mg of aspartame vs. rats fed no aspartame. At the same time, levels of epinephrine were substantially increased by almost 500%. Epinephrine is the “fight or flight” chemicals that’s normally associated with fear, uncertainty and danger.

What these results show is absolutely stunning: Aspartame sharply reduces core neurotransmitters in the brain while aggressively increasing chemicals associated with fear and danger.

In addition, aspartame makes the brain more vulnerable to oxidative damage, meaning brain cells are more prone to damage from vaccine ingredients (Thimerosal), toxic food chemicals, pesticides or even potentially 5G wireless networks that cause the electromagnetic alteration of brain cells.

The American public, which consumes enormous quantities of aspartame, is increasingly identified as “dumbed-down” and full of fear, hatred and violence. Their brains are being altered by chemicals that turn humans into more animalistic organisms that lack higher cognitive function.

As this study shows, aspartame may be contributing to the downfall of human civilization by altering the brains of human beings, turning them into cognitively impaired, chemically-altered organisms incapable of rational behavior. It also reminds us that when it comes to food ingredients, humans are the lab rats who are routinely exposed to dangerous, toxic chemicals that have unknown long-term effects.

But they’re all “approved” by the FDA, often based on fraudulent science studies provided by the chemical manufacturers themselves.

Aspartame and Donald Rumsfeld Disease

By Barton Publishing

Link: https://www.homecuresthatwork.com/14896/aspartame-and-donald-rumsfeld-disease/

What does aspartame, the sweetener used in diet sodas, chewing gum, kids’ vitamins, and hundreds of other products, have to do with Donald Rumsfeld, a chief architect of the Iraq invasion? If you don’t yet know, you’re in for a rude awakening. It’s not a pretty sight.

But let’s start with Aspartame. It was originally being produced by G.D. Searle & Company as a possible anti-ulcer drug. But when their chemist, James M. Schlatter, accidentally licked some on his finger, a new sweetener was born.

Now found under names such as NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Canderel, Benevia, and E951, aspartame contains methyl ester. According to food science professor Woodrow Monte, methyl ester immediately converts to methyl (wood) alcohol, a deadly poison that can bioaccumulate in the body. A single ounce can be fatal.

Monte, whose article “Aspartame: Methanol and the Public Health” appeared in the Journal of Applied Nutrition,[1] says, “Methyl alcohol then converts to two other known toxins—formaldehyde and formic acid.” Do you still want to sweeten your coffee with this? Wait…there’s more.

The two other two sub-units in aspartame are the amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine. These both may be harmless when they are part of protein, but according to physician H. J. Roberts, author of the medical text, Aspartame Disease: An Ignored Epidemic, the amino acids in aspartame are isolated and in a dangerous configuration (L. stereoisomer). In addition, they interact with free methyl alcohol, which is available because of the methyl ester. All these factors make the amino acids particularly harmful.

*Roberts says the isolated phenylalanine lowers the seizure threshold and triggers psychiatric and behavioral problems, as well as other symptoms and diseases. Neuroscientist John Olney, who founded the field of neuroscience called excitotoxicity, says that aspartic acid is an excitotoxin that stimulates neurons into hyperactivity until they exhaust and die.

Test Subject Loses Sight In One Eye

Psychiatrist Ralph G. Walton, medical director of Safe Harbor Behavioral Health, had to abruptly stop his own human clinical trial on aspartame when some of the subjects had serious reactions. One participant, the hospital’s administrator, suffered a detached retina and went blind in one eye. Another had bleeding of the eye; others reported being poisoned.[2]

Walton says that “Aspartame is a multipotential toxin and carcinogen,” which also lowers seizure thresholds, produces “carbohydrate craving,” and in vulnerable individuals, can cause “panic, depressive and cognitive symptoms.”[3]

There are up to 10 breakdown products of aspartame.[4] The largest (diketopiperazine) appears to be the cause for brain tumors in animal feeding studies. Olney says when it is processed (nitrosated) by the gut it produces a compound closely resembling a powerful chemical (N-nitrosourea) that causes brain tumors.[5] Author and neurosurgeon Russell Blaylock, suggests that a jump in brain tumors in the U.S. population in the 1980s is linked to the introduction of aspartame. [6] Blaylock refers to an Italian rat study[7] in which “they fed animals aspartame throughout their lives and let them die a natural death. They found a dramatic and statistically significant increase in the related cancers of lymphoma and leukemia, along with several histological types of lymphomas.” He said, “What the Italian study found is that if you take these same animals and expose them to formaldehyde in the same doses, they developed the same leukemias and lymphomas.”[8]

Would You Like Seizures With That?

The FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms from the more than 10,000 consumer complaints they received about aspartame. These included four kinds of seizures, blindness, memory loss, fatigue, change in heart rate, difficulty breathing, joint, bone and chest pain, speech impairment, tremors, change in body weight, lumps, blood and lymphatic problems, developmental retardation and problems with pregnancy, anemia, conjunctivitis, male sexual dysfunction, and death. Roberts’ medical text also identifies neurodegenerative disease, cancer, diabetes, obesity, and sudden cardiac death, among others.

Aspartame happens to be genetically engineered.[9] The amino acids are grown using genetically modified (GM) E. coli bacteria. It is unclear if the process of genetic engineering contributes to any of the problems linked to aspartame.

History Of Deceit

According to material submitted to the FDA by Mark D. Gold of the Aspartame Toxicity Information Center,[10] the FDA had discovered alleged fraud in the aspartame tests submitted by G.D. Searle. In a January 10, 1977 33-page letter from FDA Chief Counsel Richard Merrill to U.S. Attorney Sam Skinner, Merrill asked the justice department to investigate the company’s failure to file required reports to the FDA, and “for concealing material facts and making false statements in reports of animal studies…” Their so-called safety studies were riddled with problems. For example, they allegedly:

•Delayed autopsies on dead animals by as much as a year, so that much of the tissues were unusable;

•Lost samples, then found some, then lost some;

•Submitted contradictory information. For example, “One animal was reported alive at week 88, dead from week 92 through week 104, alive at week 108, and finally dead at week 112.”

•“Many of the animals from which G.D. Searle claimed had blood drawn from were actually dead…”

The Justice Department pursued fraud charges, but on July 1, 1977, the U.S. Attorney on the case quit his job to work for the G.D. Searle law firm Sidley & Austin. Then an assistant U.S. Attorney, William Conlon, let the Statute of Limitations run out on the aspartame charges. He too, like his predecessor, later accepted a job with Sidley & Austin.

With the FDA and the Justice Department trying to prosecute, how in the world did the G.D. Searle get their sweetener approved? In 1977, they hired a new company president. He was a former Congressman, and Chief of Staff under Gerald Ford. You guessed it, Donald Rumsfeld.

Rumsfeld was part of the Reagan transition team. According to attorney and FDA watchdog James Turner,[11] in January 1981 “Rumsfeld told a sales meeting, according to one attendee, that he would call in his chips and get aspartame approved by the end of the year. On January 25th, the day the new president took office, the previous FDA commissioner’s authority was suspended, and the next month, the commissioner’s job went to Dr. Arthur Hull Hayes.”

Hayes was a Defense Department contractor, and described often as a friend of Rumsfeld. His first major decision was to approve aspartame. Hayes later stepped down from the FDA in controversy over accepting corporate gifts. He went to work for the PR firm that handled G.D. Searle and Monsanto.

Rumsfeld also hired Robert Shapiro to become G.D. Searle’s general counsel. After Monsanto bought the company in 1985, Shapiro became the head of Monsanto, and was responsible for the aggressive fast-tracking of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the US.

There are untold numbers of people who allegedly suffer from symptoms related to aspartame. Some who know the story of its approval have a name for their condition: Rumsfeld’s Disease.

Safe eating.
