Babysitter denied bond in case of infant's homicide

Bond was denied to a 21 year-old woman charged with murder in the death of a 14 month-old infant in her care. Police say Chastity Parker is responsible for the death of one of two identical twins.

In his ruling, the judge said she was a flight risk, citing the fact that Parker has no family or friends in the area, and also due to the serious nature of the charge.

The Commonwealth's Attorney told the judge that the Medical Examiners office had stated that the injuries which the infant suffered were inconsistent with Parker's account of how the injuries occurred.

Police reported that Kristen Romano died as a result of blunt force trauma to her
head.

The Public Defender appointed to represent Parker at this hearing described her as "sad and overwhelmed".

Kristen's mother is a deputy sheriff in Virginia Beach, which is why Parker is being held at the Norfolk City Jail. Parker had been taking care of thetwin girls since they were about two months old.

We're also told that Parker has a 2 month old child of her own.

Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were called to the 3900 block of Water Oak Road in Virginia Beach on Thursday, June 22nd. and found the injured child. She died the next day.

Parker was arrested and charged on Monday.

Parker will remain in the Norfolk City Jail until her next hearing on July 5th.

VIRGINIA BEACH ? A baby sitter accused of killing a 14-month-old girl last month told a detectiv
e that the toddler had tumbled down wooden stairs.

An autopsy performed three days after the death of the baby, however, conflicted with Chastity Parker?s statement.

The examination of Kristen Romano did not reveal any external signs of a fall but showed injuries consistent with a blow to the head, which caused the child?s death, according to a search warrant affidavit.

The affidavit was filed Monday in Circuit Court.

Parker, a 21-year-old woman from Montana, was charged with second-degree murder. She has been held at the city jail without bail since the autopsy results were released June 26.

Parker, who has a 2-month-old daughter, watched children at least 12 hours a day. She had bee
n caring for Anthony and Jennifer Romano?s twin daughters on June 22.

Parker and her husband moved to Virginia Beach about a year ago. She told a judge at a bond hearing last week that the child?s mother, Jennifer Romano, a Virginia Beach sheriff?s deputy, was her only friend.
