Loss of "Southern-Strategy" undercuts Bush
Wake-up call for rightists

A Southern Democrat pressed his Fire-the-Liar campaign in Los Angeles, predicting that George W. Bush would fare far worse in the South than he did in 2000. Although Richard Barrett predicted a Bush loss nationwide on November 2, 2004, due to "reckless policies abroad and ruinous policies at home," he credited the incumbent's defeat to a massive defection of right-wing support. "Four years ago, pro-majority and patriotic Americans rejected the affirmative-action, left-wing policies of Al Gore, only to see the Bush Administration impose the worst 'diversity,' atrocities and trashing of the working man in history." Flashing the
catchword ABB, signifying Anybody But Bush, Barrett said that slavish support for Israel, el
evation of minorities, all-time record deficit and blundering in office had deprived Bush of Florida, Arkansas and Missouri and, possibly, North Carolina, in the crucial last days of the campaign. "Bush is perceived more and more as weak, programmed and a loser," Barrett told newsmen, supporters and onlookers.
