DETROIT -- A 21-year-old Detroit woman was charged Monday in connection with the death of her infant son.
Jessica O'Neal faces charges of first-degree murder, according to the Wayne County prosecutors. An autopsy showed her son, 9-month-old Malik O'Neal (pictured, right), who was found wrapped in a plastic trash bag in a basement dresser drawer Saturday, was suffocated, according to Detroit police.
Malik's body was found in the home of his paternal grandmother, located at 18954 Hickory, near 7 Mile Road and Schoenherr Road on Detroit's east side, where he and his mother had

been living, according to Local 4.
The grandmother said the infant's mother told her 10 days ago t
hat she had left the baby with a friend so she could get a break. She said the mother acted as if nothing was wrong.
While at a hospital for a diabetic condition, Jessica O'Neal told the doctor that her baby was missing.
Police found the boy after searching the house three times. The boy was discovered in a dresser drawer in the basement of a home Saturday, Local 4 reported.
Jessica O'Neal was taken into custody over the weekend for questioning.
