Adams Asked to Resign
Hamilton County Education Chairman Curtis Adams has been asked to resign. It happened this morning in a heated discussion launched by Kevin Muhammed, the parent of children who attend the Hardy school.
It was so quiet in the Commission room today you could have heard a pin drop as Curtis Adams was brought to task for comments he made about school scores.
Muhammed stood before the Hamilton County Commission to express his concerns about Curtis Adams saying, "We see him as out of control and harmful to the continued progress of educating our children."
Muhammed went on to say that Adams should be dealt with and ch
astised publicly for his comments and demanded an apology from Adams. The comments Mu
hammed is referring to center around improved test scores at the Hardy school.
Adams has criticized those scores saying they are value added and are not reflective of the children's actual academic achievement.
And the scathing indictment of the County leaders did not stop with Adams.
Muhammed challenged Chairman Fred Skillern as well saying, "Should he not resign, you should remove him just as you appointed him. Should you refuse to do this Mister Chairman, then to us you are saying that you agree with him, believe like him, and therefore, are in bed with him."
A simmering Adams sat through the ten minute address by Muhammed.
Then in a rare commission sight, Curtis Adams left the Commission area and walked down to address his challengers even as they called for his resignation.
He gave them an answer but it was not what they wanted to hear.
Adams addres
sed those and said, "I don't apologize...no way...it will be snowing in July before I apologize for telling you the
truth. I will be glad to continue this one on one with me and you. You know, I come to your place...you don't get many white politicians on you program I am sure.. (brief pause)...that's not racist, that is just a fact you don't carry that on you shoulder, that is just a fact."
When Adams left the commission meeting he was escorted out by Sheriff's deputies.
