A Chicago man accused of killing his lover in March and throwing the body in a city garbage can allegedly told police the gun accidentally discharged -- four times.
On Thursday, Criminal Court Judge Neil Linehan set bail at $600,000 for Lamar Wilmington, 30. He is charged with first-degree murder.
Wilmington and Guan Williams, 32, had known each ot
er since January 2003, prosecutor Mercedes Luque-Rosales said in court.
In March of this year, Wilmington and Williams were at Wilmington's home in the 7300 block of South Eberhart when they bega
n to argue over money, Luque-Rosales said.
Wilmington has told police t
hat Williams threatened to expose their relationship to neighbors and family. At some point, Wilmington claims, Williams pulled out a handgun.
Wilmington said he yanked the gun away from Williams and it discharged. Two bullets hit Williams in the head. Wilmington put the body in a garbage can and wheeled it about 1-1/2 half blocks away, Luque-Rosales said.
Earlier this month, while Chicago police interviewed Wilmington about an unrelated incident, Wilmington allegedly admitted to the killing, saying he wanted to "clear his conscience," Luque-Rosales said.
