Suspect Arrested in January Robbery That Left Convenience Store Clerk Burned

Virginia Beach police have arrested a suspect they say burned a convenience story clerk with scalding coffee during a January robbery.

Saturday, police arrested 24-year old Cecil R. Lewis, of the 2400 block of Casey Court, in Virginia Beach. Lewis was charged with robbery, malicious assault, and possession of a controlled substance. He is being held without bond in the Virginia Beach C
rrectional Center.

Police say it was around 3:10am on January 29 when a clerk at the 7-Eleven in the 700 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard was waiting on a customer who had just purchased a cup of c

According to officials, as the female clerk was making change, the custo
mer threw his hot coffee on her. He then reached into the cash drawer and removed some money. He then ran from the store.


The clerk suffered first and second degree burns on her neck and chest. She was transported to the Trauma Center at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Lewis is being held without bond in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
