A Dallas father has been charged with a second-degree felony after a paper towel was discovered in the throat of his 2-year-old son, police say.

The toddler was later identified as Ayden Strange.

Just before 12:30 p.m. Sunday, 24-year-old Antonio Strange, the toddler's father, called Dallas Fire-Rescue to his apartment in the 3800 block of Gannon Lane because the boy needed CPR. Police said the father told officers at the scene he went outside, and when he returned, Ayden was unresponsive.

Ayden was pronounced dead after attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. First responders dislodged a "compacted golf ball-sized paper towel" from the boy's throat, according to the arrest warrant.

Child abuse detectives investigated the incident. They met with Antonio Strange at a child advocacy center.

According to the warrant, the suspect told investigators he had been feeding Ayden and was attempting to remove food from they boy's throat and mouth with a paper towel. Antonio Strange told police the boy "was being an 'a**hole' during the feeding." He said he shoved paper towels down the child's throat to dislodge food.

LANCASTER COUNTY, SC (WBTV) -

A father in Lancaster County is charged with homicide by child abuse in the death of his 5-year-old son.

Robert Jordan, 47, was arrested on October 13 on the charge. Deputies say Jordan's son, La'Marion Jordan, died on September 4
at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

A day after La'Marion died, investigators went to Robert Jordan's home to speak with him. The father told them that La'Marion, who had a disability, fell out of his wheelchair and hit his head on the floor early in the morning the day before.

Jordan then drove his son to Springs Memorial Hospital, but he was transferred by air to CMC in Charlotte, where he died that afternoon.

An autopsy determined the child died from a blunt force injury to his head.

Police say Lebroam Wright told them his 26-month-old daughter was unresponsive after choking on food. However, paramedics couldn’t find anything obstructing her airway.

The child was taken to a local hospital where doctors said she was suffering from abusive head trauma, likely caused by being shaken, they said. The girl died two days later.

Bail reduced for Newark parents in death of 3-month-old son

NEWARK — A Superior Court judge has cut bail amounts in half for a Newark couple facing criminal charges after their three-month-old son died in August while he was in bed with them.

But Judge Ronald Wigler also said he was concerned by how the child represents the third infant in the family to die allegedly as a result of unsafe sleeping practices.

Over the objection of prosecutors, the judge on Sept. 15 reduced the bail from $200,000 to $100,000 for the mother of the child, Micael Jordan, 30.

Based on that decision, the state and the defense made a joint request to grant the same reduction for the child's father, Hakeem Lemons, 29, and Wigler approved that request on Oct. 13.

Lemons remains in custody at the Essex County Correctional Facility, and Jordan was released on Oct. 13 after posting bail, court records show.

In reducing Jordan's bail, Wigler said he placed significant weight on the fact that she has "absolutely zero prior criminal record," saying the case marks her first arrest, according to an audio recording of the Sept. 15 hearing.

But given the two prior child deaths, Wigler rejected a request by Jordan's attorney, John McMahon, to lower her bail to $50,000.

"I am troubled obviously with the history here...of the fact that this is really the third child that unfortunately lost its life in the care of the defendant," Wigler said.

The judge noted how state authorites were involved following the previous incidents and "there was prior notification to Ms. Jordan about the proper way that a child...should not be put in a bed with adults and other people."

During the hearing, McMahon indicated Jordan was the mother of the other two deceased children, saying "this is the third child that she's lost to...Sudden infant death syndrome," according to the audio recording. The attorneys did not specify at the hearing whether Lemons was the father of those two children.

Lemons and Jordan are each facing charges of reckless manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. The family was living at a home in the 700 block of South 11th Street in Newark, authorities said.

Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Eric Plant said during the Sept. 15 hearing that Lemons discovered the child, Jallon Lemons, at about 6:40 a.m. on Aug. 12 in the bed with Jordan and three other children, according to the audio recording.

The child was "unresponsive and there was blood on the sheets where he was laying," Plant said. In addition to the bloody sheets, investigators later found the residence to be "filthy with food and garbage strewn about the room with animal feces and flies," Plant said. Lemons told police he and Jordan had had sexual relations while the children were in the bed, according to Plant.

"The medical examiner has determined that the initial cause of death was due to asphyxiation from placing the child in the bed," said Plant, who had requested that Jordan's bail remain at $200,000.

Toddler dies of head trauma; aunt arrested on cruelty charge
UPDATED 4:10 PM CDT Oct 22, 2015

-Lorio-0120-jpg.jpg

GRETNA, La. —A 3-year-old boy died of severe head trauma days after his aunt slammed an iron gate the toddler was hanging from, causing him to fall to the ground, authorities said.

The investigation began about 7 p.m. Monday after the boy was brought to the Ochsner Westbank Hospital emergency room by his 34-year-old aunt, Ardella Loria, and his uncle, Gretna police said.

Police said Lorio was arrested on a charge of second-degree cruelty to a juvenile.

The boy was unresponsive with no pulse or breathing when brought to the hospital. Through CPR, hospital personnel were able to regain a pulse of the victim and he was listed in critical but stable condition. The toddler was eventually transferred to Children's Hospital for treatment and surgery to relieve pressure on the boy's brain.

The boy suffered subdermal hematoma and severe brain shifts, police said. Children's Hospital staff told authorities that the boy was on life support and any additional treatment would be "futile."

The boy died Wednesday night.

After seven hours of deliberation, a jury has found Eugene Jimenez guilty of third-degree murder in the 2009 death of 4-month-old son Ayden.
The jury of five women and seven men acquitted Jimenez of the most serious charge of first-degree murder, but convicted him of third-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering the welfare of children.

Jimenez, 29, of the 1500 block of Hill Road, was also found not guilty of one count of aggravated assault in relation to the baby's broken ankle and four counts of simple assault.

Ayden Jimenez died on Feb. 4, 2009, at Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown after spending several hours being treated by doctors.

An autopsy of the infant's body showed that he had bleeding in two areas of his brain, broken ribs, a fractured wrist and a fractured ankle.
Some of the injuries were medically determined to have occurred as early as December 2008, while one of the brain injuries was only hours old.

Doctors who testified during the trial said the combination of injuries were consistent with child abuse.

Teacher: Boy beaten to death cried after conduct report

November 23, 2015 at 9:48 PM

A 5-year-old boy whose beaten body was later discovered in the trunk of a car wrapped in a blanket cried when his teacher gave him a conduct grade, she testified today in court.

16781036-small.jpg

Kelly Page, the teacher of Geontae Glass, told jurors in an Etowah County court that the boy received a conduct grade in the form of a face with a straight mouth - not a smiley face, nor a frown. This grade meant satisfactory borderline behavior, basically a warning.

Glass, Page testified, cried a few tears. "My daddy's gonna spank me when I get home," he said. Page never saw the boy alive again.

Kevin Andre Towles, accused of capital murder in the 2006 death of Geontae, sat a few feet away. Prosecutors say Towles beat the child as punishment, then staged a faked kidnapping with the boy's mother in hopes of disposing of the child's body.

Towles was sentenced to die for the crime in 2009, but his conviction was overturned by the Alabama Supreme Court because of improper testimony. Towles' retrial began last week.

ATLANTA -- A suspect has been taken into custody following the alleged beating death of a baby on Nov. 9.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, officials with the Atlanta Police Department said that Jaquest Norris had been arrested for the murder of 9-month-old Monte Jones.

Norris is said to be the brother of a babysitter that the small child was left with that day.

Jasmine Jones said she left her three children with a neighbor while she went to work. Five hours into her shift, she got a call that her baby boy, Monte, was being loaded on an ambulance.

635840713601730988-Still1125-00009.jpg

Jones said the babysitter told her Monte was in the tub when she heard a loud sound and ran out.

“When they come back to the tub, the baby's face-down gurgling,” said Jones.

But Jones said when they went into the apartment, there were no signs of water and the injuries didn't match.

“When I speak to the doctor they [told me] my son has a broken leg, my baby has fractured ribs, my baby has a cracked skull and they're considering him brain dead,” she said.

Police believe the injuries were caused by Norris, who lived in the same apartment complex.

Missing 4-month-old's remains found, father charged with murder
Infant reported missing Sunday night

LOVELAND, Ohio -- Four-month-old Kaylynn Crawford, who was reported missing Sunday night, was found dead Monday afternoon, according to Savalas Kidd of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal investigation. Her father has been charged with aggravated murder.

"This clearly is not the outcome that we were hoping and praying for today," Loveland Police Chief Dennis Sean Rahe said in a news conference.

Loveland police said the father, Charles Crawford, reported his daughter was missing at about 8:40 p.m. Sunday. He told police she was taken in the parking lot of a Dollar General store. Kidd said Monday afternoon that authorities now believe these claims to have been fabricated.

Authorities issued an Ohio statewide alert for the child Monday morning. Ohio's Bureau of Criminal Investigations took the lead, with the FBI and local police departments assisting in the search.

Around 3 p.m. Monday, officials were dispatched to the Little Miami River near the intersection of Glendale-Milford Road and Beech Road.

"I don't even know where I am ... my daughter's missing," Charles Crawford told dispatchers in a 911 call. "My child's been taken."

At 5 p.m., Savalas Kidd confirmed that the search had recovered Kaylynn's body and carseat, both of which were found along the riverbank. Her mother and other family members have been notified of the discovery.

Kaylynn lived in Mount Healthy with her mother, police said, but her father had custody Sunday.

Charles Crawford has been charged with aggravated murder and is housed in the Clermont County Jail, according to police. He will appear in court Tuesday.

WCPO will update this story as more details become available.
