Director of Day Care Charged With Child Cruelty
(Columbia) - The Director of Northminster Early Child Development Center has been charged with cruelty to children. Yvonne Henry, 59, of Columbia turned herself over to Columbia police after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
A parent filed a complaint with the Department of Social Services saying she witnessed Henry throw a child on a cot because he wouldn't take a nap. D.S.S. is investigating along with the Columbia Police Department.
Joe McCullough, the attorney representing the day care, says "There are witnesses who w
ill dispute the allegations. Mrs. Henry is a nice mother and Grandmother who has worked in the child care, day care profession sinc
e 1974."
McCullough says Henry is innocent and the charges are unfounded.
Henry is working in an administrative role at the daycare, but she does not have contact with the children. She is currently free on bond.
