Delaware Police Identify 2 Killed In Home Invasion

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Delaware State Police have identified two people killed during a home invasion in the Dover area.

Police said Sunday that Clifton Leager, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. Haley Henwood, 18, was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police say Leager’s adult son also was shot. He was treated and released from a local hospital.

State police continue to investigate the home invasion that led to the shootings.

Troopers were called around 1:38 a.m. on Saturday. The incident involved a backyard chase through the Rodney Village development just south of Dover.

Police say they have identified two suspects who are considered armed and dangerous.

Police are looking for Saleem Shabazz and Matthew Harrington in connection with a Dover, Delaware home invasion that ended in the shooting death of a father and teen. (Published Monday, Oct. 19, 2015)


Police searched for two Philadelphia men who they say shot and killed a man and a teenage woman during a home invasion in Delaware.

Saleem Shabazz, 21, and Matthew Harrington, 23, both of Philadelphia, allegedly entered a home on the 1400 block of John Clark Road in Dover Saturday around 1:30 a.m. A woman told police her father, later identified as Clifton Leager, 52, who lived inside the home, was shot by one of the suspects during a struggle. Police say Leager’s son, who was inside the home at the time, was also shot during the altercation but managed to chase after the two men when they fled the scene.

During the chase, more shots were fired and a woman, identified as 18-year-old Haley Henwood of Philadelphia, was struck. Leager was pronounced dead at the scene. Henwood was taken to the hospital where she was also pronounced dead. Leager’s son was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Both Shabazz and Harrington are considered armed and dangerous. Shabazz is described as a slim black male standing 6-feet and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark clothing and was armed with an unknown type of handgun.

Harrington is described as a slim white male standing between 5-foot-9 and 5-foot-10 weighing 150 pounds. He was also last seen wearing dark clothing and armed with an unknown type of handgun.

The suspects’ vehicle is described as a 4-door dark-colored SUV.

Both men are wanted for murder, attempted robbery and other related offenses.

DOVER, Del. (CBS) — Police say one homicide suspect in a deadly home invasion in Delaware has been arrested after turning himself in to authorities Sunday night.

Police say they continue to search for another suspect in the home invasion that left two dead on the 1400 block on John Clark Road just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Matthew Harrington, 23, turned himself into the Buckingham Township Police Department and is currently awaiting extradition back to Delaware. Police say he is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility.

Authorities continue their search for Saleem Shabazz, 21, of Philadelphia. He is described as a black male, around 6’0″ tall and about 150-160 pounds with a slim build. Police say he was wearing dark clothing and was armed with an unknown type of handgun. His vehicle may be a four dour dark colored SUV.

Shabazz is wanted for murder, attempted robbery, assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, burglary and conspiracy.

Police say Shabazz is considered armed and dangerous.
