PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A manager of a donut shop in North Philadelphia’s Fairhill section was shot and killed during a robbery early Saturday morning, police said. The incident took place at the Dunkin’ located on the 500 block of West Lehigh Avenue just before 5:30 a.m.

Coworkers identified the victim to Eyewitness News as 41-year-old Christine Lugo, a mother of two with a “kind heart and smile.”

This case still has so many questions to be answered including why. Why senselessly kill this mother of two at point blank distance after surveillance video shows her giving the gunman cash from the register? Police need your help to find a man they say is armed and dangerous.

Surveillance video released by Philadelphia police shows a gunman, armed with a revolver, approaching a Dunkin’ manager as she was opening her North Philadelphia store just after 5 a.m. Saturday.

Police said a man approached the 41-year-old woman as she was opening the store. According to police, the man, armed with a revolver, forced the woman inside toward a safe in the kitchen and eventually into a supply closet where the victim hands the suspect cash. According to police, the man then shot her in the head and fled the scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Philadelphia police released surveillance video of the incident.

“Senseless, senseless,” Jeffrey Tellado said. “It’s very sad to hear this news early in the morning Saturday.”

Eyewitness News was there as customers and coworkers found out it was their friend, 41-year-old Christine Lugo.

“She started this thing about paying for the person behind you,” Randall Fleming said. “I’m not a rich man, but I would find out how much it would cost for their coffee or doughnuts or whatever they got, and I would pay for it behind me, and I got that from Christine.”

“This was really the dagger, it hurts so much, so hard because innocent people are getting killed,” Danny Davis said.

“She was a people person, oh God, it’s hard,” Ariel Rodriguez, a regular customer at the Dunkin’, said.

Over and over, those who knew her, remembering how the mother of two always made everyone feel welcome.

“My favorite coffee, she always knew it, extra-large, eight sugars and extra cream, every single day,” Rodriguez said.

“She helped everybody if you came here,” one customer said. “You wanted something to eat, something to drink, she’d give it to you, without a problem.”

As a memorial in her honor continues to grow, many are now asking why this happened.

“It must be something deeper in a person for you, you got the money, you still do it,” Tellado said.

Police said there is a $20,000 reward for information that leads the suspect’s arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts is being asked to contact Philadelphia police.

On February 8, police say he killed his own mother at a location on Ridge Avenue and on May 15 officials say he killed a worker at a T-Mobile store in Elsmere, Delaware.

In 2008, he was convicted and served time for committing a homicide and commercial robbery in Delaware.

Officials tracked Gibson to a location in Delaware and took him into custody.

A revolver that is preliminarily believed to be connected to all of the shootings was recovered.

Man arrested in Dunkin' manager's killing is suspect in 2 other murders: Sources

Wednesday, June 9, 2021 10:53AM

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A man has been arrested in connection with the weekend shooting death of a Dunkin' store manager in North Philadelphia, and sources say he's also a suspect in two other murders.

Keith Gibbson, 39, has been taken into custody and is being held on robbery offenses in connection with an incident at a Rite Aid at 4th and Adams streets in Wilmington, Delaware on Tuesday morning, according to police.

Gibbson was taken into custody without incident. He was wearing a ballistic vest and was in possession of a loaded firearm, ammunition, a knife and narcotics, according to Wilmington police.

He is facing a slew of charges including robbery and weapons offenses. No injuries were reported Tuesday.

Philadelphia police confirmed on Wednesday that Gibbson is a suspect in the murder of Dunkin' manager Christine Lugo, 41, who was killed on June 5 while opening a store in Philadelphia.

Formal charges from the district attorney's office are expected soon.

Once inside the W. Lehigh Avenue business, the suspect demanded Lugo hand over money from the store office. After taking the money, the suspect shot her in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

"This didn't have to happen. It didn't," said the victim's son, Christian Lugo last weekend.

"My mom was a beautiful human being. She cared about everybody. My mom believed in second chances, she believed in third chances," added Christine Lugo's daughter, Frances Rodriguez.

After news surfaced of Tuesday's arrest, Lugo's coworker Christian Sanchez said, "Knowing he's off the street, that's enough relief for all of us here."

Action News has learned that investigators believe Gibbson has committed numerous robberies at gunpoint and shot multiple employees in separate incidents, including the murder of Leslie Basilio at a T-Mobile in Elsmere, Delaware.

Authorities in Philadelphia are also investigating if Gibbson had any involvement in the murder of his mother, Christine Gibbson, 54. She was shot and killed at her office back in February.

WILMINGTON, Del. (CBS) — Philadelphia commie joo District Attorney Larry Krasner says he is heartbroken at the “heinous crimes” Keith Gibson is now charged with, and that his office is committed to seeking justice for the affected families in both Philadelphia and in Delaware.

So many families have been impacted by the crimes Gibson is being accused of. Now there’s a sigh of relief knowing he’s being held behind bars.

Locked up at the Howard Young Correctional Institute, Gibson is undergoing a routine health evaluation while awaiting the outcome of legal proceedings.

Wilmington police were able to arrest the murder suspect after a robbery at the West 4th Street Rite Aid Tuesday morning.

During the armed robbery, an employee managed to put a GPS tracker in the bag of cash, which helped police locate him. The 39-year-old was arrested about a block away and taken into custody. :p

“I’m hoping this is the final and people can move forward,” United Peers Operations Manager Linda Osuigwe  said.

The accused serial killer is suspected in a series of homicides. He’s currently charged with a number of felonies and is being held on $305,000 cash-only bail.

A recent string of murders is being tied to Gibson’s name, starting with his mother’s murder back in February. Christine Gibson, who dedicated her life to helping people in recovery, was at work in East Falls, Philadephia when she was killed. Loved ones feared her only son had something to do with it.

“We were suspicious, but we had no proof,” Osuigwe said.

Christine’s body discovered by her colleague and friend, Osuigwe.

“It was devastating to find her in that condition. If he needs some help then get him some help, but I wish they could’ve got him some help before,” she said.

Gibson has an extensive wrap  sheet. He was on the state’s Level 3 probation for a manslaughter charge he was convicted of in 2010.

He will remain here for the time being while arraignment and extradition matters work their way through the courts.

Alleged Serial Killer Keith Gibson Indicted On 41 Felony Charges In Delaware

By CBS3 Staff
July 6, 2021 at 4:27 pm

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Alleged serial killer Keith Gibson was indicted on 41 felony charges by Delaware authorities Tuesday. Those charges include two murders, attempted murder, robberies and assaults.

Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings says Gibson killed two people, including a Metro PCS store employee, and assaulted four others over the course of three weeks in May and June.

“This indictment lays out one of the most vicious, staggering crime sprees I’ve seen in my career,” Jennings said. “It is even more disturbing to think, based on what investigators have revealed in Pennsylvania, that this may just be the tip of the iceberg. We have assigned some of the DOJ’s most experienced prosecutors to this case and we will ensure that this man faces justice for the senseless carnage that he has caused. In the meantime, my heart is with the victims, especially the families of Leslie Basilio and Ronald Wright. My thanks go out to our law enforcement partners, including the indispensable efforts of the Elsmere and Wilmington Police Departments.”

Prosecutors say Gibson shot and killed 28-year-old Leslie Ruiz-Basilio during a robbery at the Metro PCS in Elsmere, Delaware, on May 15. Authorities say he then shot and killed 42-year-old Ronald Wright during a robbery and assaulted another victim.

Gibson was arrested on June 8 following the robbery of a Rite Aid store in Wilmington. During the armed robbery, an employee managed to put a GPS tracker in the bag of cash, which helped police locate him.

In Philadelphia, Gibson is also accused of the shooting death of Dunkin’ manager Christine Lugo, and the murder of his own mother.

A recent string of murders has been tied to Gibson’s name, starting with his mother’s murder back in February. Christine Gibson, who dedicated her life to helping people in recovery, was at work in East Falls, Philadephia when she was killed. Loved ones feared her only son had something to do with it.

“We were suspicious, but we had no proof,” United Peers Operations Manager Linda Osuigwe said.

July 6 (UPI) -- Authorities in Delaware have formally charged a Pennsylvania man with murder after he was arrested last month following a three-week crime spree prosecutors say may only be "the tip of the iceberg."
Keith Gibson, 39, on Tuesday was formally charged with 41 felonies, including two murder charges, an attempted murder charge and several assault, robbery and other charges.
"This indictment lays out one of the most vicious, staggering crime sprees I've seen in my career," Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings said in a statement.
Authorities said the crime spree began in the state May 15 when Gibson is accused of fatally shooting 28-year-old Leslie Ruiz-Basilio during a robbery at a Metro PCS store in Elsmere, a Delaware town just outside of Wilmington near the borders of Maryland, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

He is then accused of fatally shooting 42-year-old Ronald Wright and assaulting another victim during a street robbery on June 5 and then assaulting two more people and attempting to kill a third over the next three days before being arrested June 8 in connection to a robbery of a Wilmington Rite-Aid.
However, Gibson is suspected "in multiple murders committed in Pennsylvania earlier this year," the Delaware Attorney General's Office said.
According to authorities, Gibson was released from prison Dec. 20 after serving a 13-year sentence for a conviction of manslaughter and firearms-related charges.

In February, his mother, Christine Gibson, was fatally shot, a crime for which Keith Gibson was charged with murder in Philadelphia on June 16 following his arrest in Delaware.
He has also been accused of fatally shooting 41-year-old Christine Lugo, a manager at a Dunkin' Donuts shop in North Philadelphia early June 5, the same day he is accused of killing Wright in Delaware. Charges have also be laid in this case, in which authorities said he robbed the store of $300 before shooting Lugo dead.
Jennings said the charges in her indictment are made even more disturbing based on the indictments in Philadelphia.
"This may just be the tip of the iceberg," she said. "We have assigned some of the [Department of Justice's] most experienced prosecutors to this case and we will ensure that this man faces justice for the senseless carnage that he has caused."
