Motel clerk assaulted in overnight robbery
Police are investigating a strong-arm robbery at a Columbia motel early today.
Officers were dispatched at 4 a.m. to the Best Value Inn, 1718 N. Providence Road. Amy Atkins, 30, of Columbia was working as a night auditor when a man entered the business, demanded money and punched Atkins, police said.
The robber, who did not display a weapon, ran from the business with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. Medics were called to attend to the clerk, but she was not taken to a hospital.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and wearing a dark blue hooded
sweatshirt, police said.
