First hijab boutique opens in Sydney

2010/05/16

MELBOURNE: Sydney's first hijab boutique for Muslim women is set to open in Bankstown's Centro Mall to meet the demands of fashionistas.

Hijab House, the idea of Tarik Houchar, promises to relieve Muslim women from having to make their own hijabs or make do with regular scarves, The Australian newspaper reports.

Houchar, 21, said part of the inspiration for the shop came after seeing his aunt make the trek to the fabric stores of Cabramatta where many Muslim women in Sydney go to buy material to make hijabs.

"I hate Cabramatta hijabs," Houchar said. "You have to climb over a pile of fabric and fight with people."

At Houchar's store, customers will select the silk designs from a display and try them on in the women-only change area.
