Free-agent linebacker Vontaze Burfict was arrested in Nevada Saturday on a misdemeanor battery charge, according to multiple reports citing Clark County court records.

Burfict, who hasn’t played in the NFL since his 2019 suspension for a dirty helmet-to-helmet hit on Colts tight end Jack Doyle while with the Raiders, is being held on $1,000 bond. A hearing in the case was set for Monday, per Clark County Detention Center records.

Information about the incident leading to Burfict’s arrest was not immediately available.

Despite being reinstated from his suspension in February, the 30-year-old linebacker has remained a free agent after a lengthy history of unwanted behavior.

When the Bengals released Burfict after seven seasons in March 2019, he signed a one-year, $5 million deal with Oakland and quickly bashed his former team’s chemistry. In January 2016 with the Bengals, Burfict laid a late and head-targeted hit on then-Steelers receiver Antonio Brown that knocked him out.

The NFL cited Burfict’s repeated violations of the unnecessary roughness rules in handing out the longest suspension ever for an on-field incident.

In February, his agent told NFL Network that Burfict was working to conform his style of play to the league’s rules.
