High school football players arrested

MANY -- Five high school athletes remain behind bars here after being arrested last week in connection with a December armed robbery.

An employee of the Big Star Grocery in Many was beaten and robbed while trying to make a night deposit at the west branch of Peoples State Bank on Dec. 21.

Four of the five players were employees of the grocery store. They worked as bag boys, authorities said.

Niggers always covet what is most familiar to them!

Arrested were Morris Thomas, 19, Akeem Thomas, 18, Lemian Colbert, 19, Charles Jackson, 17, and Brandon Sweet, 17, all of Many. All five teens were listed in a Town Talk questionnaire as being members of the footb
all team.

Many police Chief Ron Lambert said Tuesday the Thomas brother
s
are suspected of robbing the grocery store employee. Akeem Thomas did not work at Big Star. The others were paid not to show up and help the employee, and to keep quiet.

The teens got away with an undisclosed amount of money, and none of it has been recovered. Investigators suspect the teens spent the stolen money to fix up their vehicles, Lambert said.

Each teenigger got deyselves one shiny silver rim fo' dey car!

On Dec. 21, at least two of the teens were supposed to accompany the store employee to make the night deposit. They did not show up, so the employee went alone.

About 9 p.m., the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office received a call that a man was on the ground and bleeding at the bank. When deputies and Many police arrived, the employee told them two men dressed in black beat him with a stick and stole the deposit money. The
employee was treated at a local hospital and returned to work the next day.

Investigators found a black mask an
d a stick used in the robbery not far from the bank. Officers are waiting on DNA results from the mask, Lambert said.

Tips and other information gathered pointed to the teens' involvement. During an interview, one of the teens told investigators what happened and who was involved, Lambert said.

The Thomas brothers were arrested on charges of armed robbery and aggravated second-degree battery. Colbert and Jackson face a charge of principle to armed robbery, and Sweet was booked for accessory to armed robbery. The Thomas brothers remain in the Sabine Parish Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail each, and the others must post $100,000 bail each.

According to Town Talk questionnaires filed in 2003 by Many High School, the Thomas brothers, Jackson and Colbert would be seniors this school year on the football team. Sweet is a sophomore. Sweet and Colbert were named
to the 2004 District 2-2A All-District team. It is unknown if the teens played any other sports.

School officials didn't retur
n a phone call Tuesday.
