ESCONDIDOAn Escondido family was awakened in the middle of the night by an intruder waving a machete and threatening to kill everyone inside.
On Thursday, April 11th, at 1:35 AM, Escondido Police dispatch received a 911 call regarding an intruder with a machete in a home on the 1000 block of Camelia Street in Escondido. Officers arrived in less than four minutes and were confronted by several people fleeing the house and screaming for help. Two men from the residence were trying to hold down the suspect in front of the house. Officers detained the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Jesse Angel Martinez of Escondido. A machete was recovered nearby, and Martinez was found to have a knife inserted in his neck from one of the residents.
Martinez is on active California State Parole and is a registered sex offender.
Officers learned that Martinez allegedly broke into the house and was waving the machete while threatening to kill everyone in the home. The residents of the home fought back, and at some point, Martinez was stabbed in the neck. Three residents of the house were injured during the attack, but they are all expected to recover.
Martinez was treated at the scene and transported by Escondido Fire Department Paramedics to the hospital for additional treatment. He is currently being treated for his injuries, which are considered non-life threatening. When he is medically cleared, Martinez will be booked into jail on the following initial charges: 664/187 PC Attempted Murder, 245 PC Assault with a deadly weapon, 459 PC Burglary, and 422 PC Threaten Crime with Intent to Terrorize. Anyone with information about this case is urged to call Det. Hand (760) 839-4985 reference case 24003305.
