Man who made crack in professor's kitchen gets 30 years
June 10, 2004

LEWISTON, Maine -- A Jamaican man accused of cooking crack cocaine on a college professor's kitchen stove is going to federal prison.

Easton "Bill" Wilson will be deported to Jamaica after he completes a prison term of 26 years and eight months, prosecutors said.

Wilson, who was sentenced Tuesday in Portland, pleaded guilty in November to six different charges.
e was accused of conspiring to bring crack cocaine into the Lewiston area and importing at least 5 kilograms of the drug.

Maine Drug Enforcement Supervisor Gary Baril said Wilson was part of a drug tr

afficking ring that operated between Florida and Maine.

The group used local d
rug addicts to act as "mules" for the organization, flying to Jamaica where they would swallow up to a pound of cocaine in balloons or other packages before returning to the United States, he said.

Linda Williams, a former Bates College music professor who let Wilson stay in her home, was sentenced this spring to five years in federal prison.

Court papers indicated Williams was paid rent in the form of cocaine for letting Wilson and another man stay in her house.
