KKK Fliers Shock Neighborhood
By Don Ross
(12/27/05 -- CHAPEL HILL) - There is a new case of the Ku Klux Klan making its presence known in the Triangle.
Fliers marked with KKK contact information have been distributed in Chapel Hill's Cameron/McCauley neighborhood, one of the town's oldest communities. One neighbor collected the papers to ask police to check for fingerprints.
The fliers wish the recipient "the best...throughout the New Year and a merry Christmas." It features a picture of a young girl and a dog at a Christmas tree, as well as how to contact the Knight's Party in Harrison, Arkansas.
Neighbors in the community are shocked.
"I have no idea why," said Ashley Os
ment. "But I do know that there are people throughout this neighborhood who take a very seri
ous and active stance against this kind of message, against racism and religious violence."
The Cameron/McCauley neighborhood is similar to two Durham communities that have seen apparent KKK activity this year. Someone burned crosses in the Watts/Hillandale neighborhood in May. Neighbors in the Croasdaile area discovered KKK graffiti last week.
Osment, a civil rights attorney, says she will ask the Town Council to condemn the distribution of racist literature.
"We have to be vigilant about hate groups," Osment said. "We want to know if this was done locally."

Memo to Osment:
Look out Nigger-the Klan is gettin' bigger !
