Cops shot a knife-wielding man early Thursday in the East Village, officials said.

The officers were nearby when a man pulled a knife during an argument with another person at East 10th Street and Third Avenue at 6:50 a.m., police said.

The cops told him to drop the knife — but he refused, prompting them to discharge one round, cops said.

The suspect was taken to Bellevue with non-life-threatening injuries.

Two officers were taken to Lenox Hill Hospital for ringing in the ears.

Dzenan Camovic

The man suspected of stabbing an NYPD cop in the neck without warning is a “practicing Muslim” whose family is from Bosnia — but he’s “absolutely not a terrorist,” a relative who was interviewed by federal terrorism investigators said Thursday.

The relative also said that Dzenan Camovic, 20, never expressed any anti-police sentiment to him and questioned the official account of Wednesday night’s incident in Brooklyn.

‘“I’ve known him since he was 6-inches tall. That this is a terrorism, it’s illogical,” said the middle-aged man, who declined to give his name.

“He was raised here, [English] is his only language … He was as good of a child as a child could be.”

The relative’s comments came after law enforcement sources said authorities were investigating Wednesday night’s unprovoked attack as a possible act of terror, based in part on anti-cop messages that Camovic allegedly posted on social media.

Sources also said that while Camovic wasn’t on the radar of anti-terror investigators, he’d been in contact with people who were and his family may have a “nexus to terrorism.”

The relative, who was seen speaking to a pair of FBI agents outside the Brooklyn apartment building where Camovic lives with his parents and sister, said, “I have the utmost respect for law enforcement, but it’s easy to accuse a Muslim of terrorism.”

“It’s the first offense that comes to mind when someone mentions Muslim,” he said.

“He might have been attacked yesterday, it could have been provoked and he might have mentioned — like anyone would mention God — he might have said Allah, but no one knows. I just hope law enforcement will do their due diligence.”

Camovic’s relative also alluded to last week’s police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, which sparked protests across the country, including in New York City the past seven nights.

“I think they were also saying, the African American man who was killed, that he also attacked. That he was also violent,” the man said.

“This is how he got killed, and at the end of the day, we find out the truth.”

A neighbor, Christopher Song, 62, said he recognized Camovic from a news photo.

“He seemed like a quiet person, didn’t bother anybody,” Song said.

“For him to go up to a cop and stab him in the neck … It’s insane.”

Following the attack on Officer Yayonfrant Jean Pierre, Camovic allegedly grabbed another cop’s gun, which discharged during the ensuing struggle, leaving two other cops shot in the hand and the arm, sources have said.

Camovic was shot repeatedly by a sergeant who responded to the scene and was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday, while Pierre and the other injured officers, Randy Ramnarine and Dexter Chiu, were hospitalized in stable condition.

NYPD releases footage of cop being stabbed during unprovoked Brooklyn attack

The NYPD released startling footage showing the moment an officer was stabbed in the neck by a terror-spouting assailant in Flatbush on Wednesday.

Suspect Dzenan Camovic — who remains hospitalized with gunshot wounds from responding officers — can allegedly be seen walking up Church Avenue before suddenly turning onto Flatbush Avenue and stabbing his victim shortly before midnight.

The video cuts out before Camovic, 20, allegedly commandeered the officer’s gun and shot two more cops in the unprovoked attack.

Camovic yelled out “Allahu Akbar” during the attack, the NYPD says.

“This was not a chance encounter—it was a planned assassination attempt on an NYPD police officer, the department said in a tweet.

“It’s only by sheer luck that this didn’t have a drastically different outcome.”

The three officers were hospitalized in stable condition. Camovic, a Sheepshead Bay resident whose family hails from Bosnia, was shot several times by a sergeant responding to the scene. :D

Camovic remains in critical condition and has not been interviewed by police because he’s been intubated.

He faces charges of three counts of attempt murder on a police officer. The FBI is involved and exploring possible federal charges.

The attack came amid nationwide civil unrest over the police killing of George Floyd,

The attack did not occur during a demonstration, though Camovic opened a Twitter account this month, and liked 24 tweets from those writing about George Floyd protests, looting in Soho and anti-cop propaganda, police said.

Immigrant who stabbed cop in neck is ISIS fan, said ‘my religion made me do it’: feds

August 26, 2020 | 4:53pm

A illegal immigrant who stabbed an NYPD officer in the neck then opened fire on cops earlier this year is an ISIS supporter who confessed “my religion made me do it,” federal prosecutors alleged Wednesday.

The accusation came as a federal grand jury indicted Bosnian Dzenan Camovic, 20, for the June incident in Brooklyn, which unfolded against the backdrop of nationwide protests over the police-custody death of George Floyd.

“Dzenan Camovic, an illegal alien and Bosnian national, is alleged to have used the cover of chaos during recent civil unrest in New York City to launch a premeditated and cowardly attack from behind against two New York City Police officers, brutally slashing one with a knife, stealing his weapon and opening fire, and injuring several responding officers,” said Attorney General William Barr in a statement announcing the indictment.

Camovic — a Muslim man living in Brooklyn — allegedly ambushed two officers who were on foot patrol near Flatbush and Church avenues just before midnight on June 3, officials said.

After allegedly stabbing one cop in the neck, he unsuccessfully tried to slice the other officer while shouting in Arabic “God is the greatest,” court papers say.

He then ran back to the first officer, snatched his gun and opened fire on responding cops. During the ensuing gunfight, he shot one officer in the hand and another in the arm, prosecutors allege.

Cops returned fire, striking Camovic multiple times before taking him into custody. The brutal attack was captured on surveillance video and body cameras, officials said.

While recovering at Kings County Hospital, Camovic allegedly told a healthcare worker that he believed he’d killed two cops and claimed “my religion made me do it,” according to court papers. The three injured officers survived.

A subsequent investigation revealed that Camovic had a trove of radical jihadist propaganda on his phone, computer and other electronic devices, officials said.

Camovic allegedly supported ISIS and had used the dark web and various forms of encryption to hide his online activity, according to federal prosecutors.

In the days after the incident, a relative insisted to The Post that while Camovic is a “practicing Muslim,” he’s “absolutely not a terrorist.”

“He was raised here, [English] is his only language … He was as good of a child as a child could be,” the man said at the time.

Camovic is charged with robbery, using and discharging a firearm during that robbery and other federal raps. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison.

He’s also charged in state court with the attempted murder of a police officer, assault and other alleged crimes for the same incident.

He’s being held without bail at a medical unit on Rikers Island.

Feds say man who stabbed NYPD cop confessed: ‘I’m a worthless piece of s–t’

An ISIS-supporting illegal immigrant who attacked NYPD officers with a knife and gun near a June Black Lives Matter rally — and mistakenly thought he’d killed his victims — later called himself “a worthless piece of s—,” federal prosecutors allege in new court papers.

“I’m sorry and I’m a worthless piece of s—,” Bosnian radical Dzenan Camovic, 20, told a healthcare worker at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, the papers allege.

When the worker asked the Bosnian national, “What did you do,” he said, “I killed two police officers and my religion made me do it,” according to the papers.

Camovic, who cops say is a radical jihadist living in Brooklyn, is charged with stabbing one officer in the neck and then struggling with him for his gun.

The gun went off, injuring two more officers there at Church and Flatbush avenues on June 3.

Camovic was then fired on by other cops and also injured.

Prosecutors say he “used the cover of chaos during recent civil unrest in New York City to launch a premeditated and cowardly attack from behind against two New York City Police officers.

allegedly made his admission to a Kings County Hospital worker on June 9.

The new details were disclosed in a letter filed Friday by federal prosecutors in Brooklyn.

The letter updates Camovic’s lawyer on evidence being turned over in the case.

In addition to disclosing Camovic’s alleged hospital confession, the letter reveals that prosecutors’ evidence in the case includes body camera footage from 41 officers.
