Malik Beasley charged with pulling rifle on family during homes parade

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley is facing felony charges for threatening a family with an assault rifle as they looked at homes in his neighborhood, prosecutors said.
Beasley, 23, was charged Thursday with felony threats of violence and fifth-degree drug possession, while his Instagram model wife, 23-year-old Montana Yao, faces the same drug count after nearly two pounds of pot was found at the couple’s Plymouth home on Sept. 26, the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office said.
Police responded to the residence after reports that a man, later identified as Beasley, pointed an assault rifle at a couple and their 13-year-old daughter when they pulled up to Beasley’s roped-off rental home during a Parade of Homes tour last month, according to a criminal complaint.
The family then heard a tapping on their vehicle’s window while parked on the side of the road and saw Beasley aiming the rifle at them, telling them to get off his property, the complaint states.
The victims were later able to identify Beasley in two separate photo lineups and officers detected an “overwhelming odor” of marijuana during a subsequent search of the couple’s home. In all, cops found three firearms, including one matching the description of the assault rifle, and nearly two pounds of marijuana, prosecutors said.
Yao, meanwhile, told officers the marijuana belonged to her, saying she bought it from a medical pot store, but did not have documentation to allow to her to use medical marijuana, according to the complaint.
Attorneys for the couple said in a statement to the Star Tribune that they’re cooperating with law enforcement and “will carefully review the discovery” in the next few days.
“We take these allegations seriously and will let the legal process runs it course,” the Timberwolves said in a statement.
Beasley, a restricted free agent who averaged 20.7 points in 14 games with the Wolves last season after arriving in a trade from the Denver Nuggets, was arrested on Sept. 26 and released later that day. Yao had not been arrested as of Friday, the Star Tribune reported.
Both were charged by summons, and Beasley is expected to make his initial court appearance on Nov. 19, prosecutors said.
