Mother Dead; Children Hurt

CHESTER TWP, PA-June 30, 2005 ”” An early morning tragedy struck a home in Chester Township, Delaware County. A mother is dead. Her three young children seriously injured. The crime scene is so bad that police are wearing environmental suits.

Authorities responded to a 911 hang-up call at about 2:15am.

Officers who arrived at the scene say a man came out of the home carrying an infant. He refused to cooperate. There was an ongoing struggle that went on for quite a few minutes. Tasers were used. Finally, a fatal shot was fired.

Police then found a woman already dead and three badly injured children, including the infant.

Blood is everywhere i
n the house, police say. Conditions are so bad that detectives are wearing environmental suits.

Chief Tim Wilson/Chester Township Police: "Horrible. There's blood all over the walls, doorframes, bathtub. I've been doing this job 21 years, I've never seen anything like this."

A person who says they are related to the family tells Action News they believe this was some sort of domestic situation but police have not been able to confirm that.

Chile Dies Following Beating

July 1, 2005 --The youngest of the three children found beaten in their home yesterday in Chester Township in Delaware County has died.

Officials say six-month-old Tanisha Nix died last night at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Tanisha and two other children, ages three and six, were taken to the hospital after police found their mother, 23-year-old Jamila Handy, beaten to death in their home early yesterday.

Police say the mother's cousin, 23-year-old Larry Richardson of Chester Township, was still in the house, threatening that he would not be taken alive.

Police say they tried to stop the man with a stun gun. They also fired five shots from a nonleth

al "beanbag" gun, but ended up shooting Richardson as he stru
ggled with a police officer. He died at Crozer Chester Medical Center.

The Delaware County District Attorney's Office is investigating.

I have always been in favor of building backyard catapults to launch niglets.

Sounds like fine family fun to me!

Great for 4th of July picnics.
