Grand Rapids- A string of overnight gang shootings in Grand Rapids has community members on edge, but police saying they have a handle on the gang situation in the city. Police say fi
e suspects shot into four different homes on the city's West side. They say these types of multiple shootings don't happen very often in the city. But some neighbors say police should do more to mak
e su
re they never happen.

The four shots fired at a house on Caulfield Street Southwest woke up Kathy Luke.

"They've been in this neighborhood a lot of years and they shot up a lot of houses," Luke said.

Kathy was staying in the ne
ighborhood with her boyfriend last night. She used to live in the neighborhood but moved out because of this kind of violence.

"I think there's a gang problem here," she says.

"I don't think what we have here is what you call a gang problem," says Captain Rey Carrasco.

He says Tuesday night's shooting spree is not something that typically happens in GR.

Carrasco says the police take an aggressive approach to break up gangs and prevent violence. One of the ways to do that is by
having experts learn the street patterns of gang members.

"They will attempt to communicate to themselves to rival gang members. They also communicate to us if you know how to read it,&quo
t; Carrasco
says.

While some community members say police need to do more others like neighbor Juan Lopez say things have drastically improved in the last few years, but he hopes it stays that way.

"The GRPD is doing a great job as far as I know and I hope they keep us safe," Lopez says.

Police arrested fou
r suspects in the shootings they're searching for one more, a Grand Rapids man named Leroy Sifuentes.
