Man accused of cutting of tongue of ex-girlfriend to stand trial on torture, grievous bodily harm charges

AN Adelaide man accused of cutting off his ex-girlfriend's tongue has been committed to stand trial in a Gold Coast court.
Mohammed Tasleem Tahir, 21, faced Southport Magistrates Court today by video link from prison charged with torture, grievous bodily harm and committing acts intended to maim.

He allegedly tracked down his his ex, Catherine Cameron, and attacked her in her Surfers Paradise apartment last November after she fled from South Australia to start a new life on the Gold Coast.

Tahir was arrested after police allegedly found him covered in blood at the unit. Ms Cameron was found lying on her bed with a fractured eye socket, her tongue cut off and deep cuts to both sides of her mouth.

A magistrate and police have described the incident as among the worst they had heard of.

Tahir's parents were in court today to support him.

Tahir was remanded in custody to stand trial in the Southport District Court at a date to be fixed.​
