Burbank: Roxanne Paul, a 28-year-old white woman, was killed by her former boyfriend, Garret Thomas Miao, a 28-year-old man of Chinese descent, in what police called a murder-suicide, at about 2:38 a.m. Friday, May 4.
Miao apparently killed himself after breaking into her apartment in the 1700 block of West Alameda Avenue and shooting Paul. Two children in the apartment, ages 4 and 10, were unharmed.
Numerous neighbors heard the gunshots and called police. The officers went door to door on three streets trying to find the source. The eventually found the woman's apartment, forced their way in, and found both the children and the two bodies inside.
Prior to the shooting, police said, Paul had obtained a restraining order against Miao. The two
children were placed with family members.
