Rampage player faces gun, drug and alcohol charges

(Wyoming-AP) -- A player with the Arena Football League's Grand Rapids Rampage is charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a controlled substance.

Steven Smith is also charged with having an open intoxicant in the vehicle.

He was arrested Sunday in the Grand Rapids suburb of Wyoming.

The 29-year-old Smith is free on bond. He's expected to play tomorrow night when th
Rampage take on the Detroit Fury at The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Smith is the Rampage's leading receiver. The club has lost 14 straight games, dating back to last season.

State Rep. Pierre Pleads No Contest for Drunk Driving Charges

State Representative Wilfred Pierre has been fined $625 and put on probation after pleading no contest to a first-offense driving while intoxicated charge.

City prosecutor Gary Haynes says Pierre has already completed 32 hours of community service, classes in substance abuse and driver education, and has attended a Mothers Against Drunk Driving victims impact panel.

Pierre, who entered the plea Wednesday, declined comment. He was arrested after police stopped him at a sobriety check
oint in Lafayette.

Police said his blood alcohol level registered .092 above the legal limit of .080. He entered the plea Wednesday.

from a family function when he was stopped and deeply regrets the incident.
