A woman walking her French bulldog almost had the tiny dog stolen in broad daylight from a man who followed her into a Financial District office building last month, new footage from the NYPD shows.
Video of the June 21 incident, released by police on Thursday, shows the man attempt to grab the dog after he jammed himself into the same revolving door partition as the woman at the entrance of 61 Broadway in downtown Manhattan, police said.

A struggle ensued with the victim gripping onto the Frenchie as the suspect tried to tug the helpless pup away, video shows.
The woman suffered a head injury after she was slammed against the glass revolving door, police said. She was transported to a hospital as a result.
The dog was not harmed and the suspect was still being sought by police early Friday, authorities said.

A repeat shoplifter who even soft-on-crime DA Alvin Bragg thinks should be behind bars was busted again this week — less than a month after he was released thanks to New York’s controversial bail reform laws.
Lorenzo McLucas, 34, was nabbed Wednesday at a Target on the Upper East Side, with Vaseline and lotions worth $80 on him, police sources told The Post. Cops charged him with petit larceny and possession of stolen property.
McLucas — who already had more than 120 busts under his belt — was also slapped with charges for six other thefts that took place between May 6 and June 9, all at Manhattan Targets.
It comes just weeks after the alleged serial shoplifter notched his 122nd arrest for allegedly stealing from the cosmetics counter at a Duane Reade in Midtown — and then released on his own recognizance.
The cases McLucas was charged in Wednesday include a June 4 incident where he allegedly stole $510 worth of goods from an Upper West Side Target; a June 25 caper where $481 worth of goods were stolen from an East Village Target; and another episode just last week when an Upper East Side Target was robbed of $210 worth of hairspray and makeup.

“These are places that everyday New Yorkers need and these places are closing every day,” a police source said of the chain stores that are being robbed. “He has 129 arrests, 108 misdemeanors and 21 felonies. He keeps getting out and going back.”
The Manhattan detective with more than two decades of experience said cases like McLucas’ make “a mockery of the system.”
When McLucas was busted June 22, his 122nd arrest, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office had no choice but to let him off without bail.
Mugshot of Lorenzo McLucasMcLucas was nabbed Wednesday at a Target on the Upper East Side, with Vaseline and lotions worth $80 on him.
Bragg’s office told The Post at the time that it would have requested McLucas be detained if it could, keeping in line with the DA’s announcement that he wanted to clamp down on serial shoplifters.
Prosecutors can only request bail on this sort of misdemeanor if the perp has other cases pending against him, and McLucas did not have any then and still doesn’t now.

McLucas has previously been convicted of two felonies and 29 misdemeanors. He also has 20 missed court appearances.

A rep for Legal Aid, which is representing McLucas, did not immediately comment.

Marvin Mayfield, who works for the Center for Community Alternatives, argued McLucas’ case is an example of how the city criminalizes poverty and fails to provide resources to struggling New Yorkers, rather than an “indictment of bail reform.”

“It’s easy to point fingers at a person who is arrested again and again, but we must reckon with the fact that incarceration has not and cannot solve the problem of inequality and lack of community resources,” Mayfield, who was formerly incarcerated, told The Post.

This duo is anything but dynamic — but they are dangerous.
The NYPD is looking to curb two motor scooter-riding robbers who struck 15 times between June 17 and July 16 in the Bronx and Upper Manhattan.
The bandits’ MO is that they “display a firearm, simulate a firearm or verbally threaten that they have one,” while demanding whatever valuables their victims have on them, police said.
They then grab the victims’ property before speeding off on their motorized scooter, cops said.
“They are taking mostly cell phones and wallets,” an NYPD spokeswoman said on Saturday, after police released a photo of the duo on the scooter.
The robbers have targeted the confines of the 44th and 48th Precincts in the Bronx and the 33rd and 34th Precincts in Washington Heights and Inwood, the NYPD said.
The spree includes the following:
  • June 17, at 9:50 p.m., in front of 1354 Merriam Ave., the Bronx.
  • June 30, at about 6:30 p.m., near East 174 Street and Grand Concourse, the Bronx.

‘Professional’ shoplifter with more than 100 arrests finally behind bars after fighting cops: NYPD

Self-described "professional booster" with nearly 100 arrests speaks to the NY Post in February 2022

The 101st time was the charm.
An infamous female scofflaw who was previously arrested 100 times for shoplifting and repeatedly released without bail has finally landed in the city pokey after yet another store theft, according to court documents.
This time, self-described “professional booster” Michelle McKelley, 41, made the mistake of fighting back against cops in Harlem during the weekend crime, authorities said.
McKelley had swiped paper towels from the Duane Reade at West 125th Street and Lenox Avenue on Friday night, cops said.
Officers trying to arrest McKelley said she fought back, “kicking, biting, scratching and spitting” at them, according to police.
One female cop reported that McKelley bit her on her left shoulder, causing pain, court documents show.
Both officers were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
McKelley was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property. At her arraignment, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office requested $25,000 bond. Bail was set at $5,000, records show.

McKelley was in jail at Rikers Island as of Sunday morning, according to documents.
In addition to her dozens of theft arrests, the accused serial shoplifter also has another 11 sealed busts, police sources said.
She was last arrested June 25 for allegedly pocketing $125 worth of goods from a CVS in Lower Manhattan — only to be freed once again under the state’s soft-on-crime criminal-justice reforms.

At her arraignment in that case in Manhattan Criminal Court the next day, prosecutors said McKelley has failed to appear in court 27 times on her multitude of past arrests — and had five other pending cases against her.
But she still was able to walk free without bail thanks to 2019 state reforms, which only allow prosecutors to ask that she be put on supervised release while the case is pending.
In February, the suspect allegedly boasted to cops about her “hustle” after they said she had been caught stealing from an Upper East Side Target and then released at her arraignment.
Michelle Mckelley.Michelle McKelley was previously arrested 100 times for shoplifting and repeatedly released without bail.Steven Hirsch
“I haven’t got caught in a long time,” she crowed to the officers, according to prosecutors in Manhattan Criminal Court.
“I’m a professional booster. Y’all are stopping my hustle,” she allegedly added.

What do you think? Post a comment.

Speaking to The Post after that hearing, Mckelley described how she “professionally obscures” items — including even the red shirt she wore in court.

“I have to get a new outfit … so I have to go work,” Mckelley said when asked if she’d steal again.

A “flash mob” of looters were caught on camera ransacking a 7-Eleven in Los Angeles earlier this week — making off with handfuls of cigarettes, snacks and other goods, authorities said.
Video clips released by Los Angeles police show dozens of people, many of them not bothering to hide their faces, grabbing various items as they swarmed the chain store Monday shortly after midnight in the Harbor Gateway section of the city.
Part of the footage even shows the rowdy bunch going behind the counter that was apparently vacated by 7-Eleven employees and flinging items toward a pack of people on the other side.

Snacks, drinks, cigarettes, lottery tickets and other merchandise were all lifted from the store, which also was vandalized, according to police. Looters also allegedly threw items at store employees.
After exiting the store, the throngs of suspects quickly left the area before cops arrived, police said.
1_th.jpg

The robberies occurred during a street takeover where drivers flooded and blocked a city intersection with their vehicles from all directions to create a “pit” in the middle of it, police said.

Spectators got out of their cars and watched as drivers started “doing doughnuts,” authorities said.

“The term ‘flash mob’ was first used to describe a large public gathering at which people perform an unusual or seemingly random act and then disperse, typically organized by means of the internet or social media,” the LAPD said in a statement.

“In the latest cases, however, ‘flash mobs’ have turned from fun spontaneous events to opportunistic criminal occurrences.”

Police were seeking the public’s help in apprehending the suspects.

The incident comes as LA County District Attorney George Gascon and his office have come under fire for prosecutorial laxity that some blame for a spike in the city’s crime rate. He has been criticized for announcing plans to soften the state’s three strikes law, which mandates harsher penalties for repeat offenders.

Robbers caught on video in a violent struggle with an employee at a Bronx store after attempting to steal merchandise

A duo trying to steal merchandise from a Bronx dollar store was caught on video putting a 23-year-old female worker in a chokehold last week — the third violent robbery at the shop in less than a year.
“I was physically assaulted in front of people, and I had to defend myself in front of kids,” the shaken victim told The Post on Sunday.
“I was scared to come back to work because they might know me,” the Westchester County resident, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear for her safety, said of her attackers. “They can hurt me — I still work here.”

The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Family Dollar Store on Webster Avenue near East 168th Street in Morrisania when an unidentified man and woman tried to leave the store with a cart containing goods, cops said.
The worker said she was watching the whole incident unfold on a security camera and thought that the thieves would have gotten away with about $400 worth of goods if she didn’t intervene.

The worker said that when she confronted the crooks, they fought her for their booty — and the female robber even choked her, video shows.

The attack was the third such violent incident at the discount store since October, police said.

In January, a sticky-fingered suspect used eye-stinging pepper spray on a worker who tried to stop them from leaving the store with swiped goods, cops said.

More On: robberies

Three months earlier, a man and a woman tried to steal clothes and household products from the store. When a clerk intervened, the man slashed him with a box-cutter, cops said.

Last week’s assaulted worker said the store doesn’t have regular security despite shoplifting there practically every day.

“We need some more security, and we need the strongest ones because this is getting worse,” she said.

“The area is not good. We have a lot of [homeless] shelters here, and it’s the shelter people come in here [from] and steal stuff.”

Last week’s two thieves fled the location with an unknown amount of store merchandise, cops said.

Meanwhile, the employee who confronted them sustained minor injuries and was treated by EMS at the scene.

The female thief is described as approximately 5’6” and 220 pounds with her long black hair in braids. She was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and black Adidas sandals.

The robbery duo had also struck July 30, when they were caught on video approaching a 39-year-old man in front of 1395 Nelson Ave. in Highbridge, displaying a black firearm and demanding cash, authorities said.

The brutes forced their victim down to the pavement, pressed the firearm into his back and removed about $800, two cell phones, jewelry and AirPods before fleeing on foot, police said.

The value of the stolen property was about $12,710, according to cops.

A couple days later, on Aug. 2, a 25-year-old man was sitting outside his home near Gun Hill Road and Lurting Avenue in the East Bronx around 7:15 p.m. when the muggers stole his necklace, a bracelet and wallet containing around $540 and credit cards, cops said.

The creeps fled in a vehicle on East Gun Hill Road, then on Laconia Avenue. The value of the jewelry was about $2,100.

TikTok user @thesuedeshow — a k a Funny Mane Suede — posted a video showing the entire order of wings stripped to the bone, along with a shorthand note from the driver saying that they had eaten everything.
“I cannot make this up. Here I am ordering some WingStop and in my bag, I get this,” exclaimed the TikToker.
“Now I know you noticed the fries gone. My drink is intact but again my fries gone and a damn note in it,” a perplexed Funny Mane Suede added.

More On: times square

An accused serial pickpocket who preys on Times Square tourists can’t keep his fingers to himself — and authorities can’t keep him behind bars.
Dedrick Williams, 53, has a dozen arrests since March alone — the latest of more than 40 busts dating back to 1984, police sources said.
And yet he keeps getting released without bail.
“He is a prolific pickpocket preying on tourists and working people in Times Square for over 30 years,” one Manhattan cop griped to The Post.
“There’s no consequence, so he keeps doing it.”
1_th.jpg

Said another cop, “He is definitely targeting the area and picking on the most innocent people — tourists who it is hard to believe are naive the amount of crime in this city.

“Robberies are through the roof,” the source said.

Records show that Williams was last arrested on Aug. 19 and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and weapons possession for allegedly unzipping an unsuspecting transit rider’s purse while trying to steal her wallet, records show.

He was released without bail in that case as well.

Just 10 days earlier, the NYPD had taken to Twitter to celebrate getting Williams off the street after his 11th arrest this year alone — only to see him walk free.

Manhattan prosecutors asked for $30,000 bail, but the judge ordered that Williams be set free on supervised release, records show.

In that case, Williams had been charged in a slew of heists, including the July 18 incident during which he allegedly snatched a wallet from a woman’s backpack on a 6 train.

The following day, he allegedly stole another woman’s wallet in Times Square.

“Something has to be done to hold criminals like this in jail,” said another cop. “It is a warped judicial where the system cares more about the criminals than the victims.”

Former NYPD Sgt. Joseph Giacalone, now a professor of Criminal Justice at John Jay College, said Williams belongs behind bars.

“He’s got to be put in jail,” Giacalone said. “He’s got to not be released on bail and he’s got to go to Rikers Island and sit there and wait for these cases to come up.

“I mean, how many more times?” he said. “Apparently he hasn’t learned his lesson.”

Tom Harris, president of the Times Square Alliance, said cracking down on crime in the busy tourist mecca was vital as the city returns to normal after COVID-19

“With law enforcement and district attorneys lacking the basic tools to ensure safety, we will continue to see these incidents happen, and they will hurt our city and our city’s recovery,” Harris told The Post.

Williams’ attorney could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The man walked into the art space on West 10th Street near Sixth Avenue at around around 5:45 p.m. on Sept. 13 and grabbed a framed picture off the wall, cops said late Wednesday. Authorities didn’t have specific details about the pricey artwork.

Three thieves stole ATMs from four Brooklyn and Queens businesses in a two-week-long spree – and also snatched a dog from one of the stores during a caught-on-camera heist, police said Thursday.
The dog-napping incident took place inside a deli on Glenmore Avenue near New Jersey Avenue in East New York around 2:50 a.m. on Sept. 13, cops said.
The suspects cut multiple locks on a metal security gate before lifting it and going inside, cops said.
Surveillance footage shows a small black and white dog scampering around as the crew enters the store.
One of the suspects sweeps the pup into his arms and then goes into another room – where his two accomplices yank an ATM out of the wall and walk off with it, the video shows.

The dog has since been found and reunited with its owner, though cops did not have details on those circumstances.
In addition to the ATM — which $7,340 — the trio also stole a cash register holding about $2,800 and assorted merchandise valued at about $13,000, authorities said.
They took off in a white van, cops said. No injuries were reported.
During the other heists – on Sept. 1, 3 and 15 in Queens and on Sept. 8 in Brooklyn – the culprits made off with at least $33,200 in cash from the ATMs, as well as $400 from a register.

Dramatic surveillance video shows the moment a trio of robbers — one swinging a sledgehammer — smashed their way into a high-end Park Avenue jewelry store over the weekend.
The brazen heist took place around 3:30 a.m. Saturday at Cellini jewelers in the 400 block of Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan.
The NYPD, which released the video, said the thieves got away with more than $500,000 in merchandise.
The footage shows the three intruders — all of them wearing hoods, masks and gloves — busting through the first set of doors at the store, then using a sledgehammer to breach the second glassed entryway, giving them access to the interior.

Without wasting a moment, the bandits proceed to smash and knock down display cases to plunder their contents, which they stuff into prepared sacks.
At one point, the crooks shatter several adjacent glass stands and grab handfuls of pricey watches, too.
“A full inventory of the items removed is pending at this time,” cops said in a statement. “The estimated value of the items removed is over $500,000.”
The robbers fled the ransacked store on foot before jumping into a gray or silver sedan, an NYPD spokeswoman said. The getaway car sped off east on East 56th Street, the rep said.

The shop also sells a Girard-Perregaux tourbillon watch that fetches $172,000.
As of Monday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the burglary. The NYPD is now asking for the public’s help in tracking down the suspects.

The backpack contained the woman’s credits cards and house keys, police said.

A woman lost consciousness at a Queens subway station and had her backpack, including her credits cards and house keys, snatched by a man taking advantage of the woman passed out on the ground, police said.
Authorities said the man swiped the backpack from the 67-year-old woman inside an Elmhurst subway station around 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. The bag contained the victim's keys, credit cards, and ID.
The woman had been walking through the mezzanine at the Queens Boulevard and Grand Avenue station when, for unknown reasons, she passed out. Medics transported her to Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital for treatment.
Police said the thief used the woman's credit card the next morning to grab a meal at Jumbo's Hamburger Place in Harlem. Surveillance images released by the NYPD allegedly show the man dining at the burger joint on West 145th Street around 8 a.m.
