FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Precinct detectives at 2:45 a.m. today charged Steven Bernard Sydnor with criminal homicide for the stabbing death of his girlfriend inside their apartment in the Brookwood complex at 714 Due West Avenue.

Detectives discovered April Dawn Anderson, 39, bound on the floor of the apartment. Her throat had been cut.

The investigation began at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday when Sydnor, 28, flagged down East Precinct Officer Shane Fairbanks at the intersection of Sylvan and South 7th Streets. Sydnor told Fairbanks that he had been involved in an alterc

ation with his girlfriend and that he thought she was dead. Officers and Fire Department personnel rushed to the a
partment. Forced entry was made and Anderson was found dead in a bedroom.

Detectives believe that Anderson was likely killed on Sunday, the day that Sydnor said he left the apartment. Anderson

Slain woman's relatives testify to her compassion

Diminutive April Anderson may have been a size 4, but her small frame had nothing to do with the size of her heart, her family said.

Her limitless compassion extended to her on-again, off-again relationship with live-in boyfriend Steven Sydnor, 28, who had battled drug abuse during their six-year relationship, relatives said.

In March, Anderson, 39, fled California and her stormy relationship with Sydnor. The two resumed talking about six weeks ago and it wasn't long before Sydnor showed up on Anderson's Tennessee doorstep and she took him back.

ter," her sister, Tina Anderson, said yesterday.</span>

Instead, police said, things took a turn for the worst. Anderson was found dead inside her Madison apartment. Her ankles and hands had been bound behind her back. Sydnor has been charged in her killing.

Her death was the subject of a preliminary hearing for Sydnor yesterday in Metro General Sessions Court.

On Nov. 22, Sydnor flagged down a Metro police officer near the intersection of Sylvan and South Seventh streets in east Nashville around 9:30 p.m.

"He was obviously distraught," Metro police Officer Shane Fairbanks testified yesterday. "He didn't really seem to be acting normally."

Assistant Metro Public Defender Jonathan Wing asked Fairbanks to tell the court exactly what the man told him.

"He just kept saying he took it too far this time. He took i

o far," Fairbanks testified.

Sydnor told Fairbanks that his girlfriend was suicidal and that he obliged when she asked him to h
elp her slit her throat, the officer testified.

In the meantime, officers went to the Madison apartment where they discovered Anderson's body. Investigators determined she had been killed about a day and a half earlier.

Anderson's family members sobbed quietly in the courtroom as they listened to police testify about how they found the bound woman lying face down in a bedroom.

Despite initial police reports that said April Anderson had died as a result of her throat being slit, a detective testified yesterday that the cause of death most likely was asphyxiation from a sock that had been shoved down her throat.

Anderson's neck, mouth and part of her face were covered with pink clothing.

Sydnor was charged with criminal homicide and is being held in the Metro Jail in l
ieu of $500,000 bond. He sat motionless with his eyes closed and head down during most of the hearing.

General Sessions Judge John Aaron Holt bound the case over to the Davidson County grand jury after hearing the testimony.

Anderson's body has been cremated and a memorial has yet to be planned. Relatives expect to have two memorials: one here and one in California, her sister-in-law, Susan Anderson, said.

Man Kills Girlfriend; Ties Her With Rope

Steven Sydnor is accused of stabbing April Anderson to death and then tying her up. Metro Police say Sydnor stopped an officer a day and half after she died and told the officer what he had done.

When police went to her apartment, Anderson was found dead in the floor. Anderson had moved to Nashville from California earlier this year.

Sydnor's case has been bound over to the grand jury.

Limitless compassion? Who the hell writes this crap--Professor P.C.? If you translate this into reality, it was her place and the shiitskin wouldn't leave. And more importantly niggers never "battle" drug abuse. The day just isn't the same without drugs to these muds. This evil murdering boon will eventually dry out in
