A driver who sparked mayhem in Midtown Manhattan last month after nearly plowing into police officers and then driving through a dining shed during a traffic stop — a scene captured in a wild video — was busted Saturday, police said.
Benjamin Abrams, a 55-year-old homeless man, was charged with three counts of assault on a police officer more than two weeks after the April 19 incident, according to cops.
One of the officers hit his head and suffered a concussion after jumping out of the way of the car.
Abrams remained silent as he was walked out of the Midtown South precinct.
“Crime Stoppers tips led to his arrest,” a police spokeswoman said.
Abrams was also charged with burglary, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident and other criminal counts.
The burglary charge stemmed from Abrams going into a homeless shelter on Lexington Avenue as he fled cops and stealing a sweater, a police source said, possibly to disguise himself.

The vehicle was found after the incident.
The Cadillac was eventually found nearby but Abrams remained on the lam for more than two weeks, cops said.
Video shows the chaotic scene that unfolded after the driver of a black Cadillac sedan was pulled over by police on East 30th Street between Madison and Park Avenues just before 5 p.m., the NYPD said.

In the video, police officers yell commands at the driver, who suddenly takes off and jumps the curb before crashing through part of an eatery’s outdoor dining shed, sending debris into the air.

One person can be seen jumping out of the car’s way as it hits the dining structure.

The vehicle then slams into a street sign as it approached an intersection prompting pedestrians to run for their lives before speeding off eastbound across Park Avenue on East 30th Street, the footage shows.

Cops released photos of the suspect dressed in yellow and wearing a mask during the search.
The vehicle was found abandoned later that night on East 31st Street near Lexington Avenue. It wasn’t clear where the driver has been for the past two weeks, cops said.

At one point during the investigation, police released shots of the suspect from surveillance. He was fully clad in bright yellow and wearing a mask.

Police didn’t provide a reason for the traffic stop, but sources said the driver may have been pulled over because of a fake license plate.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The woman wanted in several Christmas night hit-and-runs in Philadelphia has been arrested, according to police. Neera Nicholas-Hudson, 32, was taken into custody Thursday, Philadelphia police said.
Nicolas-Hudson was wanted for her alleged connection to multiple car crashes on Christmas 2022, including the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian.
Police said Nicholas-Hudson was driving a 2005 silver/blue Mustang on December 26, 2022, when she was allegedly involved in a crash involving a scooter and multiple cars outside of Rivers Casino on Delaware Avenue. A 51-year-old scooter driver was taken to the hospital with a shattered leg but was expected to be OK.
16pkg-mw-broad-st-hit-and-run-frame-1265.jpg

As Nicholas-Hudson was fleeing the scene of the initial crash, police said she was then allegedly involved in a second crash, hitting a bicyclist at Broad Street and Spring Garden. The bicyclist was taken to a nearby hospital and was also expected to be OK.
After hitting the bicyclist, police said Nicholas-Hudson then allegedly fatally struck a pedestrian at Broad Street and Lehigh Avenue. That victim, identified as 22-year-old Roland Darrel White, was taken to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police said Nicholas-Hudson then left her vehicle at Broad Street and Indiana Avenue, where it was towed for investigation.

An arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Nicolas-Hudson for murder and homicide by vehicle, as well as other related offenses.
White's family also offered a reward for an undisclosed amount of money for any information leading to Nicolas-Hudson's arrest.
Officials also urge anyone with information on these incidents to contact the Crash Investigation Division at 215-685-3180 or dial 911.
Police did not release any other details about her arrest at this time.

A woman driving with a suspended license was busted in connection to a chain-reaction crash involving an MTA bus that injured more than a dozen people – including her own passenger, who was clinging to life Monday, cops said.
Chandiana Jean, 23, was behind the wheel of a 2003 Chevy Impala, going north on Essex Street near New Lots Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when she rear-ended a 2021 Toyota Sienna driven by a 22-year-old man, police said.
The impact caused the Sienna to careen through the intersection, hitting a 2006 Ford Escape SUV with a 55-year-old man behind the wheel — who was stopped at a stop sign westbound on New Lots Avenue, authorities said.
Jean’s Impala was then struck by a B15 MTA bus as she continued driving through the intersection, cops said.
Her rear passenger, a 44-year-old woman, was taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition with internal body trauma, police said.

Eight people on the bus were hospitalized – including the 38-year-old male driver who suffered an injured rib, police said.

The others included four men – ages 30, 44, 56 and 60 – and three women – ages 20, 46 and 55 – who all suffered minor injuries.

Jean was brought to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center with minor injuries after the crash and was then charged with aggravated unlicensed operator as well as possession of a forged instrument — because the car was unregistered, police said.

A 26-year-old man who was also a passenger in her car was brought to the same hospital with minor injuries.

The 22-year-old Toyota Sienna driver went to Brookdale with back and neck injuries, and the passengers of that vehicle – a 43-year-old man and 18-year-old woman – were both taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, cops said.

The 55-year-old Ford Escape driver went to the Kings County Hospital Center with minor injuries, police said.

One of the 15 people injured in the crash is seen on a stretcher. Fifteen people, including Jean, were hurt in the Sunday night smash-up, cops said. Cousin remembers truck driver killed in I-95 collapse in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Authorities have yet to identify the driver killed at the scene of the I-95 collapse in Philadelphia, but a cousin of the victim says 53-year-old Nathan Moody was behind the wheel when the tanker crashed.

Moody's cousin says state troopers notified his widow earlier Monday they believe he was the driver and that Tuesday the family will be submitting dental records to positively identify the remains.

RELATED: I-95 collapse in Philadelphia: Highway hazmat accidents on the rise

"We had a feeling," Isaac Moody, the cousin of Nathan, said.

23pkg-arob-i95-truck-driver-killed-transfer-frame-542.jpg

Isaac Moody says Nathan, a father of three, first started driving trucks in the military - a career he'd follow into civilian life and one that he quickly fell in love with.

"He'd call me up and say, 'Cuz, yo I'm out here trucking, man. I'm going around seeing the world,'" Isaac Moody said.

Isaac Moody says it was Nate - as he was known - who inspired him to also start driving and that Nate had earned top certifications in his field.

"You give props to all the truck drivers but for people to have endorsements with tanker and hazmat and stuff like that and they pulling that -- respect is respect -- you have to know what you're doing," Isaac Moody said.

Isaac Moody says it's why what happened is hard to understand, especially knowing Nate has been doing the same fuel delivery route every Sunday morning for several years.

"I would say this for any legitimate truck driver, especially with a clean driving record, a flawless driving record," Isaac Moody said. "Something caused the truck to lose control. What caused the truck to lose control is my question because I can't see him with everything he had to live for to lose it."

For now, with more questions than answers, Isaac Moody is finding comfort in photos.

"This is Nate right here," Isaac Moody said, holding a picture of his cousin.

And memories of times spent together, like a Christmas Eve Steelers game the pair attended in Pittsburgh.

Isaac Moody hopes the coming days will bring clarity for his family and so many others as well.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The reckless driver with 160 violations who hit and killed a baby in Brooklyn offered an emotionless apology Wednesday — before he was sentenced to nine years behind bars.
Tyrik Mott, 30, handed over his AirPods and iPhone and hugged relatives before being sentenced at Brooklyn Supreme Court in the fatal hit-and-run that killed 3-month-old Apolline Mong Guillemin and left her mother seriously injured on a Clinton Hill sidewalk on Sept. 11, 2021.
“I’m just sorry for everything I did. I’m sorry for all the hurt I caused,” Mott said in his seconds-long apology to Judge Danny Chun. “I really didn’t mean it.”
Prosecutors had recommended that Mott get 15 years in prison but he received a lighter sentence after accepting a plea deal in March.
He pleaded guilty to manslaughter, attempted robbery, reckless driving and other charges.

In court, Mott tried having additional time before he was sentenced, but when asked by Chun what the reasoning was for the request, his attorney James Kirschner couldn’t provide a reason.

Mott, wearing a black hoodie and gray sweatpants, had been out after posting a $150,000 bond in February 2022.

Mott had been driving the wrong way down Gates Avenue when he blew a red light and collided with another car on Vanderbilt Avenue, killing the baby being pushed in a stroller by her mom on the sidewalk, cops said at the time.

Mott then bolted the scene and attempted to carjack another vehicle before he was caught by police officers, according to the District Attorney’s office.

The 3-month-old’s mother Marion Guillemin suffered serious injuries in the crash, according to prosecutors.

The wrong-way driver had allegedly told officers “if he could just get a ticket” when he was arrested, prosecutors said during his arraignment.

South Jersey man charged in November 2021 fatal crash of White Lower Merion High School principal sentenced

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- It was a heart-wrenching day for the family of a Lower Merion High School principal who was killed when a car crashed into his SUV in November 2021. His wife spoke Thursday at the sentencing hearing of the driver of the other vehicle.

Kristi Hughes's emotional testimony detailed the family's sorrow.

"I was able to make it to my husband's side from Pennsylvania before I lost him forever," she said.

Hughes explains in court the blurry moments of a November morning in 2021 after a driver had sped through a stop sign in Winslow Township, slamming into her husband Sean's SUV. Their young son was also riding in the car.

Sean only had a short time to live. Her son was conscious and in the care of a stranger she'd later call a guardian angel.

She remembers that first phone call.

"Is this a sick joke, she must have the wrong number," she said.

The sentencing hearing in a Camden County courtroom caps 19 months of agony for the family of Sean Hughes. He was an admired and respected career educator and principal of Lower Merion High School.

Dr. Wagner Marseille, a former colleague of Sean Hughes, spoke through tears.

"I will always remember my friend Sean," Marseille said.

Police accuse Azuka Ossai of speeding through that stop sign and colliding with Sean Hughes. His attorney and prosecutors struck a deal on a lesser charge in the indictment that spared the man any jail time.

Before his sentencing of 90 days house arrest and five years probation, Ossai sobbed and offered an apology.

Hughes's family and two sons were in court. His daughter was too distraught to be here.

The dad was known at Lower Merion for his character counts optimism and kindness forward presence.

His wife closed with words that stung.

"You took a life with limitless potential and value," she said. "The world was a better place with Sean Hughes in it. All men are not created equal. You carelessly took a life that far exceeds your worth."

A 14-year-old boy riding a moped-like vehicle was busted this week for allegedly ramming into a 6-year-old boy inside an East Harlem park and leaving him clinging to life, police said.
The teen was arrested Thursday and slapped with a juvenile charge for leaving the scene of an accident with a serious injury in connection to the tragic Sunday incident at Thomas Jefferson Park, cops said.
The young suspect — whose name was not released because of his age — was riding a “two-wheeled motorized vehicle” on a pedestrian walkway inside the park, at East 111th Street and First Avenue, around 6:30 p.m. when he struck the boy, cops said.

The boy was thrown to the ground and suffered severe head trauma, authorities said.

He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

The youngster who allegedly struck him initially remained at the scene, but took off before cops showed up, without identifying himself, police said.

The gravely injured boy was later diagnosed with a brain bleed and multiple skull fractures and moved to Columbia University Irving Medical Center, police said.

The alleged hit-and-run crash happened just two days before the city lifted a ban on e-bikes and scooters in its parks as part of a yearlong pilot program.

The pilot — which does not include “faster, heavier mopeds” that require a driver’s license to operate in the list of approved electric vehicles — allows e-bikes and scooters under 100 pounds to drive along park drives and greenways inside city parks.

The Parks Department has said it will continue to maintain its rules against reckless behavior by those riding such vehicles.

The driver who was caught on camera striking and killing a construction worker on Manhattan’s Upper East Side during a wild road-rage spat was ordered held on $50,000 bond at his Friday arraignment.
Andre Mosby, 26, is accused of fatally plowing into Long Islander Roberto Velez Alvarez after a quarrel, sending the 54-year-old smashing through the glass storefront of a cafe on East 60th Street just before 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Mosby, who is charged with first degree manslaughter, was driving with a suspended license and had three children and his girlfriend in the car at the time, prosecutors said at the hearing in Manhattan Criminal Court.
He slammed on the gas of his car after Alvarez slashed two of his car tires, according to Assistant District Attorney Shilpa Kalra.
“The decedent gets in front of the defendant’s car while holding the knife, and the defendant accelerates his vehicle running over the decedent and crashing both into the decedent and the defendant’s own vehicle in a large glass storefront, causing the storefront to completely shatter,” Kalra said.

He suffered “numerous bodily traumatic injuries” and was pronounced dead less than 30 minutes later, Kalra said Friday.

The fight broke out after Mosby tapped the back of Alvarez’s 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck with his car, according to police.

Mosby’s attorney, Scott Gallagher, described his client as a “family man.”

“He is a very proud father, a stay-at-home dad who enjoys cooking for his children every single day and taking all three of them to and from school, going to the park. He takes a lot of pride in being a father,” he said.

The hit-and-run driver who plowed into seven pedestrians, including an Italian tennis coach, in Midtown — before getting into a second crash in Queens — may have been suffering from a manic episode, her mother said, as attempted murder charges were filed against the motorist.

Imani Lucas, 29, stayed mum as she was led out of the NYPD’s Midtown South precinct on Tuesday, sporting a gray T-shirt reading “Good Vibes,” black jeans, and flip-flops.

She ignored reporters’ questions about whether God had told her to strike the innocent pedestrians — or if she had anything to say to the victims — as cops escorted her into a waiting police cruiser on the way to Central Booking just after 10:45 a.m.

Lucas has been slapped with seven counts each of attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving in connection to the Sunday night crash at West 36th Street and Sixth Avenue, authorities said.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner will be joined Tuesday by Pennsylvania State Police to discuss the sentencing of Jayana Webb in the 2022 killings of Troopers Martin Mack and Branden Sisca and Reyes Rivera Oliveras.

Krasner and state police will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, streaming on CBS News Philadelphia and in the video player above. Krasner's office said Capt. Gerard McShea, Lt. Charles Burckhardt and assistant district attorneys Joanne Pescatore and Jeffrey Hojnowski, as well as Gabrielle Rainey, director of victim/witness services for the Anti-Violence Partnership of Philadelphia.

Webb pleaded guilty to third-degree murder and driving under the influence last week.

According to police, Sisca and Mack were on I-95 in South Philly helping Oliveras when Webb struck and killed all three men. Prosecutors said Webb posted on social media two seconds before the crash and had a blood alcohol content nearly three times the legal limit.

Last Wednesday, Webb admitted in a Philadelphia courtroom that she was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

"It is our prayer that, at some point, they get some peace and comfort," Michael Walker, who represents Webb, said. "It is her prayer that at some point they can forgive her. She has always wanted to accept responsibility for the mistakes that she has made."

The plea deal avoids a trial. Webb was sentenced to 27½ to 60 years in prison by Common Pleas Judge Barbara McDermott.

Webb, who is pregnant , will remain on house arrest until her baby is born in February.

A speeding driver with a suspended license caused a chain-reaction crash that killed a “darling” and ambitious 14-year-old boy around the corner from his Brooklyn home over the weekend, cops said.
Teen Christian Antoine was crossing the street at the intersection of East 81st Street and Glenwood Road in Canarsie around 6:15 p.m. Saturday when reckless Mercedes driver Rayan K. Salmon, 45, allegedly crashed into him, police said.
Salmon first struck the front left fender of another vehicle – which caused his ride to spin clockwise and hit the teen pedestrian, cops said.
The boy suffered trauma to his body and was taken to Brookdale University Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition, but later succumbed to his injuries.
Antoine was heading home from his dad’s house when he was fatally struck, his distraught older sister, Eudanya Guichard, told WCBS.

Woman arrested in hit-and-run that killed beloved Philadelphia barber

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A special education assistant at Frankford High School has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that killed a beloved barber in Philadelphia last week, according to police.

Sharon Seawood, 42, was charged Monday with homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, accident involving death and other offenses, police said.

The School District of Philadelphia said Seawood has been a special education assistant at Frankford High School since September 2023, and she didn't report to work last week after the crash. Seawood has been placed on leave, the district spokesperson said.

The hit-and-run happened just after 11 p.m. on March 27 on the 7900 block of Ogontz Avenue in West Oak Lane.

Police and paramedics responded to a hit-and-run call and found 47-year-old Toby Bryant lying unresponsive in the middle of the street with severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead minutes later, police said.

Investigators said Bryant was crossing the street against the light last week and not in the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Bryant's brother told CBS Philadelphia he was walking home after getting dinner when he was fatally struck.

According to a witness, the driver kept driving about 100-200 feet after hitting Bryant, stopped, got out of their car, looked back at the victim and then got back in the car and left the scene.

Bryant was a father of four and a barber at Golden Comb, located two blocks from the hit-and-run.

A viewing and funeral were held Wednesday, and Bryant's family said the arrest brings a sense of relief.

"Right after the burial, we received the news that the person was found, so to me that was a blessing," Bryant's younger brother said.

A bouquet of flowers sat on the counter inside Golden Comb. Last Wednesday, the barbershop draped a black barber's cape over Bryant's chair. He worked at the barbershop for at least 15 years.

"I hope no other family goes through the pain that we went through because I wouldn't wish that on nobody," Bryant's nephew said.

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WCMH) – Attorneys for a man charged with vehicular homicide related to a fatal Clark County school bus crash filed a motion to dismiss the case, arguing the legality of the man’s driver’s license.
Hermanio Joseph, 35, of Springfield, is accused of driving a minivan that crossed the center lane while nearing a curve and drove into the path of a Northwestern Local Schools bus on the district’s first day of the 2023-24 school year. The bus driver swerved to the right to avoid the collision, but the vehicles still struck each other, and the bus went off the road and down an embankment, flipping over on its top, according to police.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said 26 students were hospitalized. One student, Aiden Clark, was ejected from the bus and pronounced dead at the scene. Joseph is charged with vehicular homicide – a fourth-degree felony.

A motion filed by Joseph’s attorneys on Jan. 10 moves to dismiss the case because while the state alleges Joseph had an invalid license, prosecutors haven’t supplied Joseph’s defense with any evidence that his driver’s license was invalid on the date of the accident. The motion also claims Joseph had a valid driver’s license issued in Mexico, where he lived before coming to the U.S.
The motion argues that because Joseph had a valid driver’s license at the time of the crash, the potential violations committed by Joseph would be misdemeanors, rather than the fourth-degree felony outlined in the indictment.
In its response filed on Monday, the prosecution claims that an investigation found Joseph’s driver’s license was invalid in Mexico. It also alleges Joseph resided in the U.S. for more than a year at the time of the crash but hadn’t converted his license to an Ohio license.

After the crash, Gov. Mike DeWine formed a school bus safety working group to examine topics from school bus regulations and crash risk factors to the possibility of seatbelts on buses. The group is scheduled to submit its recommendations Wednesday.

And then the Communist run Unions took over, forcing companies to hire unskilled workers who F'd up and F'd around on the job - sleeping, drinking, smoking dope (mostly the blacks), production fell into the gutter, product manufacturers & other companies couldn't profit enough to stay in business.
So, they closed down shop then opened up in China, Mexico, Thailand etc etc etc.
These days, manufacturing jobs in USA have faded to a shadow of the past.

But don't worry, illegal immigrants coming FROM Communist countries by the millions are headed this way for jobs that do NOT exist, while those here are out squatting homes.

The Real History of Unions: Violent Communist Agitation

Mar 28, 2022Violent communist agitation was a large part of early unionization in America, but union officials don't claim ignorance of unions' historical ties to communism. In 2011, Andy Stern, former president of the Services Employees International Union (SEIU), admitted that unions have Marxist
