(Brooklyn-WABC, June 8, 2004) --Police are investigating three rapes in the last week, and it is believed the same man is responsible for all of them. Nina Pineda reports from the Canarsie section of Brooklyn with details.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The three rapes over the last five days -- rapes that will affect the young victims and their families for the rest of their live. But, now they have been linked, and the entire community is affected.
All three young women say the same man hurt them. He is p
eying on teenagers, young women. police believe it is a man in his 20s stalking victims when they are walking alone in their own neighborhoods.
Inspector Susan Morley, Special Victims Squad:
"His MO basically is to approach them, try to engage them in conversation. And then he
grabs them around the neck. He took jewelry and cash."
Cops say the rapist has attacked three times in the Canarsie vicinity.
On June 3, his victim was just 17 years old. He allegedly grabbed her Avenue J and east 80, raped, then robbed her.
On June 5, this time at 1:45 in the afternoon, a 20-year-old victim was raped and robbed near East 98 Street.
On Monday, June 7, around Rockaway Parkway, an 18-year-old girl was robbed and sexually assaulted just after 10:00 at night.
The suspect in all three cases is described as a black male, 20-25 years old, weighing about 170 pounds. He wears his hair in braids, and was last seen wearing a blue denim jacket, with a blue baseball cap, and a red bandana
underneath it.
People hope somebody turns him in before anybody else gets hurt.
Canarsie Resident: "It's pretty warm now, he's going to find a lot of females on the
street walking around. And it is so sad to hear, around Canarsie, it's such a nice area."
People here are afraid, and they are
hoping someone knows this person and will call Crimestoppers at 800 577 tips (8477).
