Tennessee saw more Civil War Battles than any other state except Virginia. There were more than 3,000 documented engagements between Confederate and Union forces on Tennessee soil.

Now there is an effort under way by the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association to save a part of that history and commemorate the Sesquicenntial of the Civil War with a Tennessee specialty license plate but time is quickly running out.

The Tennessee General Assembly approved a Tennessee License Plate commemorating Tennessee's Civil War Sesquicenntial in June 2007. Sponsored by the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association, the license plate is now available for "pre ord
er." The specialty plate is $35.00; personalized $70.00.

Proceeds from the sale will support battlefield preservation in Tennessee. Think of it as a way of preserving history and helping the environment at the same time as battlefield parks make nice green areas for the public to enjoy as well as an area for learning and remembering.

TCWPA must receive 1000 orders before June, 2009 and according to the folks in charge they have reached a little more than a third of that goal. The clock is ticking so place your order now. Order forms may be obtained by contacting TCWPA at contact@tcwpa.org. Join Tennesseans in commemorating this important era in our nation's history.

The Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association is a non-profit organization devoted to the preservation of Tennessee's endangered Civil War battlefields, to acquire, preserve and protect the hundreds of Civil War battlegrounds, buildings, sites and properties throughout the state and items having war-related
significance.
