Golden State Warriors forward Anthony Lamb is accused of raping a fellow student-athlete in 2019 while they attended the University of Vermont.
Kendall Ware, a former Division I swimmer at UVM, made the allegations in a civil lawsuit filed against the school on Tuesday. In is, she claims the school mishandled and displayed “deliberate indifference” to “student-on-student harassment and sexual assault.”
Ware says in the lawsuit that Lamb raped her at an off-campus party hosted at the house where Lamb lived on Sept. 7, 2019, after their six-month relationship ended that summer. She claims the assault took place in Lamb’s bedroom following an altercation, in which Lamb was screaming and insulting her in the driveway outside the house.
At the time, Lamb was a junior, and Ware was 19.
The next month, Ware reported the alleged assault, along with two others involving Lamb, to the school’s Title IX Office, according to the complaint. It states that she was dissuaded from seeking a formal investigation by a number of UVM employees, including athletic director Jeff Schulman.
Ware has previously discussed her assault with the Burlington Free Press, claiming she was raped by a men’s basketball player in 2019, and that the school failed her in its Title IX process. Ware did not identify an assailant at the time.

Lamb, who played at Vermont from 2016-2020 before going undrafted, is not a defendant in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in Burlington.
“The allegations made against me in 2019 that have recently resurfaced are patently false,” Lamb said in a statement made through the Warriors. “I have always been fully cooperative regarding the alleged incident, and have welcomed any investigation into the matter. Simply put, I have never committed sexual assault.”
Ware filed the lawsuit in conjunction with two other females who also claim they were sexually assaulted in two separate incidents (not involving Lamb) while they were UVM students. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages. The three women claim the school “ignored known and obvious conditions that substantially increased Plaintiffs’ risk of campus sexual assault by fellow students.”

“Anthony is not a defendant in this recent lawsuit and, to our knowledge, he has never been charged with any wrongdoing in any legal case,” the Warriors said in a statement to SF Gate. “Prior to signing Anthony in September, we did our due diligence with the NBA and his prior teams, as we do with all players. If any new information comes to light, we will certainly evaluate it and act accordingly.”
Warriors general manager Bob Myers had addressed the accusations in a press conference on Oct. 16, after the team signed Lamb to a two-way contract.
“We checked with the NBA, we checked with the two teams that had prior signed him and didn’t hear anything as far as official charges or anything like that,” Myers said at the time. “It’s tough because we take that very seriously.”
In a statement to “Seven Days” on Wednesday, a UVM spokesperson said university officials “were sorry to learn of the individual situations that each of these plaintiffs recounted and we want all survivors to know that they are heard, supported, and respected.
“We stand behind our strong procedures and protocols, and the support provided by the dedicated individuals who perform this work with the highest degree of professionalism, integrity, and care. Even though an independent review last year found that UVM met or exceeded all benchmarks around sexual misconduct response, we have implemented numerous changes to our protocols.”
Prior to joining the Warriors in August, Lamb had stints with the Rockets and Spurs, as well as a number of G League affiliates.
