Gunman In Ft. Hood Attack Identified

FORT HOOD, Texas (CBS) ― One of the three gunmen accused of a shooting rampage that left 12 soldiers dead at Fort Hood Thursday has been identified as fellow soldier Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

One of the gunmen was killed and two others are in custody, said Lt. Gen. Bob Cone. Reports said the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack. It was not yet clear if Hasan was the primary shooter.

The shooting happened at 1:30 p.m. at the Howze Theater on the post, according to CBS television station KTVT-TV.

Cone said the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.

President Barack Obama is calling a mass shooting at a Texas Army base a "horrific outburst of violence."

"We will make sure that we get answers to every single question about this horrible incident," the commander in chief said. "We are going to stay on this."

The commander in chief says it's a tragedy to lose a soldier overseas and even more horrifying when they come under fire at an Army base on American soil.

Obama also said his thoughts and prayers are with the wounded and families of the fallen.

The FBI sent agents to the scene to aid in the investigation.

The Army post was locked down as investigators searched for the gunmen. All nine schools on the post were also locked down as a precaution.

Fort Hood is the largest U.S. Army post in the world, with thousands of soldiers stationed there.

In a statement, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison said, "I am shocked and saddened by todays outburst of violence at Fort Hood that has cost seven of our brave service members their lives and has gravely injured others. My heart goes out to their loved ones. Our dedicated military personnel have sacrificed so much in service to our country, and it sickens me that the men and women of Fort Hood have been subjected to this senseless, random violence."

Lots of predictable mainstream media dissembling going on about Malik Nadal Hasan, the one murderer who has been identified in the attacks at Fort Hood today that left 12 dead and 31 wounded. One AP story says that his religion is not known. The CBS story below is a bit better, actually identifying him as a Muslim. But no one, no one at all, in the mainstream media is discussing jihad as a motivation. It's all about "snapping," "not wanting to go to war" (then why join the Army), etc.

[...] A law enforcement official identified the shooting suspect as Army Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan. The official said Hasan, believed to be in his late 30s, was killed after opening fire at the base. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

The official says investigators are trying to determine if Hasan was his birth name, or if he changed his name and converted to Islam at some point in his life.

Bobster, I would imagine the MSM (White House led) spin machine is working OVERTIME to hide the fact that the shooter may be black. The initial reports on TV described him as black. We may be getting BS on the new photo. I hope it comes out in the wash, but I trust NOTHING the MSM press says. NOTHING.

I was listening to early reports on CNN or HLN, not sure which as I was flipping back and forth, and of course, the heads had to make sure to tell us "not to jump to conclusions" and bring up McVeigh. "It could be a homegrown terrorist", and "it could be the White supremacists behind a coordinated attack." Actually, my first suspicion when I heard the initial reports on the radio was Mexicans, just because of the Texas location.

FORT HOOD, Texas -- The base commander at Fort Hood says soldiers who witnessed a shooting rampage that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" before opening fire at the Texas post.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone told NBC's "Today" show on Friday that suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for "God is great!" before the rampage Thursday that also left 30 people wounded.

Military officials say they are still piecing together what may have pushed Hasan, an Army psychiatrist trained to help soldiers in distress, to turn on his comrades.

Cone says Hasan was not known to be a threat or risk.

Hasan was shot four times during the rampage. Cone says he is hospitalized in stable condition and that military officials will interrogate him as soon as possible.

It don't add up. Malik Hasan is the kind of name a a nigger 'convert' to pisslam would make up. First we are told the shooter was killed. Then a picture of a white guy or rab pops up and we are then told he is alive.

FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) — Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage at Fort Hood that left 13 people dead reported that the gunman shouted “Allahu Akbar!”�� before opening fire, the base commander said Friday.

Lt. Gen. Robert Cone said officials had not yet confirmed that the suspected shooter, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, made the comment, which is Arabic for “God is great!”�� before the rampage Thursday, which left 30 people wounded, including the gunman.

An imam from a mosque Hasan regularly attended said Hasan, a lifelong Muslim, was a committed soldier, gave no sign of extremist beliefs and regularly wore his uniform at prayers.

Cone said Hasan was hospitalized in stable condition and that investigators hope to interrogate him as soon as possible. In the early chaos after the shootings, authorities believed they had killed him, only to discover later that he had survived.

Cone said Hasan was not known to be a threat or risk. He acknowledged that it was “counterintuitive”�� that a single shooter could kill and injure so many people. But he said the massacre occurred in “close quarters.”��

FORT HOOD, Texas (CBS) ― Army officials say a total of 43 people were shot when an Army soldier opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood base in Texas.

Lt. Gen. Bob Cone, the top commander at Fort Hood, said Friday that Fort Hood police Sgt. Kimberly Munley and her partner responded within three minutes of reported gunfire Thursday afternoon. Cone said Munley shot Hasan four times despite being shot herself.

Officials said Munley was in stable condition.

Cone said, "It was an amazing and an aggressive performance by this police officer."

Cone also said he was inspired by a woman who helped carry a wounded victim and used her blouse as a tourniquet, then later realized she'd been shot in the hip.

Hasan, is hospitalized on a ventilator.


Officials have not released the names of those injured or killed in the attack.

Incomplete List Of Victims In Fort Hood Rampage:

Pfc. Michael Pearson & Francheska Velez. Two Illinois soldiers were among those killed in the massacre at Fort Hood, Texas. Pfc. Michael Pearson of Bolingbrook and Francheska Velez of Chicago, both 21, were among the 13 people who lost their lives when Hasan opened fire, their families confirmed. Pearson was shot three times and died in surgery Thursday night. - CBS station WBBM-TV

Spc. Jason Dean Hunt. A recently married, 22-year-old soldier from southwest Oklahoma was one of the 13 people killed at Fort Hood, his mother said Friday. Gale Hunt of Frederick said two uniformed soldiers came to her door Thursday to notify her of the death of her son.

Amy Krueger, of Kiel, Wisconsin, was among those killed at Fort Hood, Texas, according to media reports. Krueger, a sergeant with the Madison-based 467th Medical Detachment, was reportedly set to deploy to Afghanistan in December.

Russell Seager, a Racine, Wisconsin native, was a nurse practitioner in the primary care area at the VA Medical Center. He was killed at Fort Hood Thursday, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Seager joined the Army Reserve about four years ago and was reportedly looking forward to his deployment to Iraq.

Specialist Kham Xiong, A 23-year-old soldier from St. Paul, Minnesota, was among those killed in the Fort Hood shootings Thursday afternoon. - CBS Station WCCO-TV

Army Reserve Spc. Grant Moxon, of Lodi, Wisconsin was very close to the Army major who shot and injured soldiers at Fort Hood, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Moxon has a bullet lodged in his leg above his knee.

Dorothy "Dorrie" Carskadon, a U.S. Army Reserve social worker of Rockford, Illinois was critically injured in the Fort Hood shootings, Michelle Zuba-Ingram with St. Chad Episcopal Church in Loves Park, told the Rockford Register Star.

Matthew Cooke was among the injured in the attack. "He's been shot in the abdomen and that's all we know," Jamie Casteel told The Associated Press. She said Cooke, from New York state, had been home from Iraq for about a year.

Amber Bahr. The family of a Random Lake, Wisconsin soldier injured in the Fort Hood shooting says Amber Bahr was shot in the back and is undergoing tests. Lisa Pfund says she was relieved when the 19-year-old Bahr finally called Thursday evening. Bahr told her she went running when shots rang out, and didn't realize she'd been hit until she went to an emergency room. - CBS affiliate WKBT-TV

Ray Saucedo. Ashley Saucedo told WOOD-TV in Michigan that her husband, Ray Saucedo, was shot in the arm, but she couldn't discuss specifics. Saucedo said she and the couple's two children weren't permitted to leave their home at Fort Hood during the shootings.

Spc. Keara Bono. One of the 30 people injured in the Fort Hood shootings currently lives in the Twin Cities, according to an article in the Star Tribune. The paper reported that Spc. Keara Bono was shot twice. One bullet hit the Missouri native in her back and the other grazed her head. - CBS station WCCO-TV.

Staff Sgt. Alonzo (Mac) Lunsford, a Richmond, North Carolina native, was injured at the Texas base Thursday. Lunsford, who stands near 7-feet-tall, is reportedly in his early 40s. He was shot three or four times and two of the bullets have been removed, according to Mayor Gene McLaurin. - Richmond County Daily Journal

George Stratton III,18, called his father a short time after the shootings. George Stratton Jr., from his Post Falls, Idaho home said his son called him from an ambulance on the way to the hospital. He says his son is okay, and was only a few feet away when the shooting started. - KVTB.com

Nathan Hewitt, of Lafayette, Indiana, is one of the wounded soldiers. CBS affiliate ****-TV spoke with Hewitt by phone from his hospital bed. He said he is doing well and is trying to keep everyone's spirits up. Hewitt's uncle said his 27-year-old nephew is recovering from a shot wound in the calf and a hip injury. He said Hewitt was at the Fort Hood medical facility when shots were fired.

Staff Sgt. Joy Clark, a Des Moines, Iowa soldier, was among the soldiers wounded in the rampage, her father revealed Friday. Clark, 27, was shot in the left arm, according to her father Jerry Nelson.
