PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Two teenagers were shot, including one fatally, in Philadelphia's East Germantown section on Wednesday night, Chief Inspector Scott Small said. A stray bullet from the incident also grazed a man's clothing after it shattered his driver's side window.

The shooting happened in the area of Germantown Avenue and Wister Street just after 6:30 p.m. Small said police officers were in the area when they heard several gunshots.

Small said police found a 16-year-old boy was who shot once in the upper back at East Wister between Germantown Avenue and Wakefield Street. He was taken to Einstein Hospital by police and pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m.

A 17-year-old boy was found a block away at Wister Street and Germantown Avenue shot in the right hip. He was also taken to Einstein by police and placed in stable condition, authorities said.

Small said investigators found at least seven spent shell casings at the unit block of East Wister fired from two separate caliber semiautomatic weapons.

Small said police believe three suspects were involved in the shooting, including two who fired shots. He said surveillance video showed two different groups at different sides of East Wister moments before the shooting happened.

The group of shooters fled wearing dark clothing in an eastbound direction on foot on East Wister, Small said. The shooters fired at a group of five or six people, striking two of them.

Small said there's other surveillance video, including some from businesses in the area, that police could use in their investigation. He said both groups — the shooters and shooting victims — appear to be juveniles.

A stray bullet from the shooting struck the driver's side window of a 55-year-old man who was driving eastbound on East Wister, Small said. The 55-year-old wasn't struck, but the bullet went through his window and sleeve. Small said the man is cooperating with police in the investigation.
