Two Philadelphia men have been arrested and charged with running a dogfighting operation earlier this month, police said.

The owners and lessees of the property were identified and arrested, police said. Bryant Page, 30, of the 1900 block of Berkshire Street, was already in federal custody. Terrance Hayward, 33, of the 2300 block of North Opal Street, was arrested Wednesday by Northeast Philadelphia detectives.

Both are charged with cruelty to animals, criminal conspiracy and possession of instruments of crime.

Police said they received information Oct. 6 that there were numerous injured dogs in a warehouse located at 1198 Adams Avenue in the Frankford section of the city.

Northeast detectives investigated along with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and found 18 injured dogs of different breeds.

One dog was euthanized at the scene due to the severity of the injuries. The rest were transported to an SPCA facility for treatment and shelter.

SPCA officials said the warehouse was being used both as the dogs' training center and the place where the dogs fought. Authorities found fitness equipment for animals as well as a portable ring with blood splatter on the walls.
