2 wounded in drive-by shootings

EASTER GUNPLAY IN TORONTO, MARKHAM

POLICE IN Toronto and York Region are probing drive-by shootings that both occurred early yesterday morning. In one, a bouncer at a downtown nightclub was shot in the stomach yesterday but is expected to recover.

The 33-year-old victim was shot outside the Film Lounge, near Beverley, around 1:40 a.m., police said, and he was taken to Toronto General hospital, where he underwent surgery.

No arrests
have been made and police did not release a description of the suspect.

Cops said they made several purchases of Ecstasy inside the club and charged one man.

Yesterday's other victim was shot as he sat in his SUV sometime between 7 and 8 a.m. in Markham.

ATTACKED AT RED LIGHT

The victim and his passenger were stopped at a red light on the exit ramp from Hwy. 404 at 16th Ave. when another auto pulled up.

A passenger got out with a large-calibre handgun and opened fire through the SUV's passenger-side window, police said.

The slug struck the driver in the left leg. The assailants pursued the SUV through Markham until the wounded man managed to flag down police. He is expected to recover.

The assailants
were all Asian. The shooter is described as 5-foot-9, balding, with short hair and a thin black beard.
