A military base in Florida was on lockdown Friday morning amid reports of an active shooter — who was later confirmed dead by authorities.

Shots rang out sometime around 7 a.m. at Naval Air Station Pensacola, which was immediately placed on lockdown.

Around 8:45 a.m., the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Facebook that the shooter was dead.

The US Navy said one additional fatality has been confirmed and that an “unknown number of injured people were being transferred to local hospitals.”

The gunman was shot and killed by deputies at the base, according to Channel 3 News.

The network said Baptist Hospital confirmed it was caring for seven patients related to the shooting.

On Wednesday, an active-duty sailor opened fire at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, killing two and wounding a third before turning the gun on himself.

Four people are dead including the suspect after an active shooting incident at a naval base in Pensacola, Florida, police said.

The shooter was a Saudi national in the U.S. for flight training, two law enforcement officials familiar with the investigation told ABC News. Investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was terror-related or not, the officials said.

Authorities responded to reports of a shooting at Naval Air Station Pensacola at 6:51 a.m. on Friday, officials said. ATF and FBI also responded to the scene.

The shooting took place at one of the classroom buildings on the base, officials said. Officers with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office arrived on the scene and fatally shot the suspect after exchanging gunfire.

Three people, including the shooter, were pronounced dead on scene, police said.

Eight people were injured in the shooting and were transported to Baptist Hospital, a hospital spokesperson told ABC News. One of those transferred to the hospital later died from injuries, police said.

The Saudi military man who shot up a Pensacola, Fla. naval base, killing three young Americans, visited New York just days before the attack — touring landmarks including the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, according to law-enforcement sources.

Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani, 21, arrived in the Big Apple on Nov. 28 — Thanksgiving Day — taking in sights including the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree with three to five other men, all Saudi nationals training at other US military facilities around the country, sources said.

On either Nov. 29 or 30, sources said, that jaunt took Alshamrani and one other man to the 9/11 Memorial & Museum, commemorating the heinous terror attack carried out by 19 fiends — 15 of them Saudis.

Investigators traced the pair to the solemn Lower Manhattan spot because one of them used a traceable payment method to make a purchase in the gift shop, according to sources.

It wasn’t immediately clear what that purchase was, or whether it was made by Alshamrani or his companion.

The trip, which saw the men stay at two hotels including the Hotel Edison Times Square, wrapped up on Dec. 1, according to sources.

Five days later, Alshamrani opened fire with a handgun at Naval Air Station Pensacola, where the second lieutenant in the Saudi air force was receiving aviation training.

The attack left three US Navy students dead and eight others wounded before Alshamrani was gunned down by sheriff’s deputies.

The FBI has said that they are investigating with the “presumption” that the strike was terrorism, but the probe remains active.

At least some of the Saudis who accompanied Alshamrani in New York are in custody in Florida, sources said.

(LONDON DAILY MAIL) Six Saudi nationals have been arrested after an Air Force trainee - also from Saudi Arabia - opened fire at a naval base in Florida, killing three people and injuring eight.

The men were detained near the scene of the shooting, which took place at Naval Air Station in Pensacola early Friday morning. It is currently unclear why they have been taken into custody.

Three of the six Saudis were seen filming the entire incident as it unfolded, a source told The New York Times on Friday evening.

No officials have yet stated whether any of them were students inside the classroom where the shooting occurred.
