A Lawndale, Chicago shooting happened during an attempted armed robbery in the 3900 block of West Ogden Avenue, the police department said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- An armed group carried out six robberies at gas stations across Chicago within two hours on Tuesday morning.

The crime spree started in the 1100 block of North Cicero Avenue just before 4 a.m.

One robbery happened just before 5 a.m. in the Avondale neighborhood's 3900 block of West Belmont Avenue. Police said a man and woman were standing next to a car when four people robbed them. No one was hurt.

Around 6 a.m., a man was shot by someone who tried to rob him in the Lawndale neighborhood's 3900 block of West Ogden Avenue, police said.

A 31-year-old man was outside when an unknown armed person approached him, police said. The offender demanded the man's property and shot at him.

Police said the victim, shot in the back, was transported Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition. The shooter fled the scene in an unknown direction.

The thieves were driving an older-model white Toyota Camry.

No one is in custody and Area Four Detectives are investigating.

The robberies happened at the following times and locations:

  • 1100 block of N. Cicero Ave. at 3:51 a.m.
  • 300 block of S. Cicero Ave. at 3:54 a.m.
  • 1900 block of W. Cermak Rd. at 4:25 a.m.
  • 3900 block of W. Belmont Ave. at 4:55 a.m.
  • 1300 block of N. Pulaski Rd. at 5:03 a.m.
  • 3900 block of W. Ogden Ave. at 6:02 a.m.
