UPDATE – July 19, 2022 – 1:15AM: According to official Barnstable Police records, Anthony James Silva, age 35, of Centerville, was arrested and charged with Breaking & Entering in the Nighttime with the Intent to Commit a Felony, Vandalizing Property, Assault & Battery, Resisting Arrest, and Assault & Battery on a Police Officer.
………………….
INITIAL HN REPORT:
HYANNIS – Last evening – Saturday, July 16, 2022 – at around 9:30 p.m., Barnstable Police squad cars rushed toward a home on Dartmouth Street after receiving reports of a “stranger on the roof.” Additional police units scrambled toward the scene when it was learned the stranger had eventually jumped from the roof and forced his way inside the home. The homeowner was then reportedly assaulted after a struggle ensued. A Barnstable Police patrolwoman was the first police unit on scene. Upon entering, she was allegedly pushed by the suspect and had to deploy her Taser in self-defense, radioing she needed more units. Additional units scrambled toward Dartmouth Street. Moments later a patrolman announced the suspect was in custody and responding units could slow down. As you will see and hear in the following HN Video, the stranger was handcuffed and strapped to a stretcher before being transported to Cape Cod Hospital under arrest.
The investigation is still unfolding, and the suspect was still at the hospital at the time of this report, but the following is what HN has learned so far:
According to a police source, the Centerville male, in his mid-thirties, had allegedly been extremely “jammed up on drugs” last evening. He allegedly told officers he saw a house with people inside and went for help. Officers are still uncertain why and how he climbed up onto the roof of the residence.
After being arrested, the suspect reportedly complained of some sort of shoulder injury that may have happened when he jumped off the roof.
Once down from the roof, the man allegedly proceeded to force his way into the home by breaking a rear door. There was reportedly blood on the damaged door that later needed to be photographed.
The residents were reportedly very alarmed by the stranger barging into their home. A scuffle allegedly ensued between the intruder and homeowner. The suspect will be charged with Assault & Battery on the homeowner.
The suspect will also be charged with Assault & Battery on the first police officer who arrived on scene.
The investigation is not yet finalized, but the suspect is looking charges related to Breaking & Entering, Vandalism, A&B (on the homeowner), A&B P.O., and Resisting Arrest. More charges may follow.
The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Unit assisted on scene with photos.

HYANNIS – [DEVELOPING] – A man wanted on a default warrant for drug charges allegedly would not stop for a Barnstable Police k9 unit this afternoon, at around 5:30 p.m.. The chase started in the area of Bristol Ave and Bearses Way, according to police radio transmissions.

The adult male was reportedly wanted on a default arrest warrant in relation to “Class B” drug charges. The K9 unit reportedly chased the suspect to the rear of the Barnstable Community Innovation School on Bearses Way, where there are several baseball fields and a basketball court. According to police conversation on scene, the suspect was told to stop and that he was under arrest. He was also said to have been warned that the K9 would be released if he didn’t stop.

According to police on scene, there was allegedly a moment when the suspect looked back at the K9 officer. The suspect then allegedly decided to take off down a path into the woods. (It’s uncertain whether the suspect was riding a mountain bike at the time of his alleged flight down the path, but as you’ll see in the following photos, one was recovered at the scene by police…)

As you will hear in the following HN Video, the K9 officer announced a “K9 apprehension” and immediately requested an ambulance to the scene. A Hyannis Fire Department ambulance and Heavy Rescue unit responded to help carry the injured suspect out of the wooded area to the rear of the school. The extent of the suspect’s injuries was unknown at the time of this report. The suspect was transported to Cape Cod Hospital in police custody. Aside from the default warrant, it’s unknown if the suspect is looking at additional charges. [DEVELOPING]

The following HN “video” contains police and fire department radio transmissions, along with HN images. HN will provide official details and additional suspect details as soon as they are released.
