BATON ROUGE, La. — A man who was arrested last week in connection to the disappearance and death of a Walton County father in Baton Rouge has been formally charged for being involved.

Nathan Millard vanished last month on a business trip to Baton Rouge. His body was found rolled up in a rug and plastic three weeks later.

Last week, Derrick Perkins, 45, was arrested on several charges including access device fraud. Police said at the time he was wanted for questioning in Millard’s death.

Perkins has now been charged with unlawful disposal of remains, obstruction of justice, simple criminal damage to property and failure to seek assistance.

Millard was last seen at a bar in downtown Baton Rouge and was later spotted by a security guard at a nearby Greyhound bus station.

Days after his disappearance, Millard’s family was told that someone who did not match his race was using his ATM card.

Police later released surveillance photos of Millard walking with another person and said his last known sighting was around 4:30 a.m. It’s unclear if the person in that video is Perkins.

Millard’s cause of death has not been released, though police said they do not believe foul play was involved in his death.

Perkins was already booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison on three counts of access device fraud, which relates to unauthorized use of a debit card, as well as on unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, probation violation and criminal damage to property.
