RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A 46-year-old woman is behind bars and a 22-year-old man is dead after a confrontation outside an Irmo home escalated into violence yesterday afternoon. Wright appeared in court this afternoon for a bond hearing, where she was denied bail. Her defense attorney argued that Wright was acting in self-defense against a neighbor with whom she had a history of conflict.
The deadly encounter began earlier in the day Wednesday when Wright allegedly confronted Outland at his place of employment, accusing him of using her Wi-Fi without permission. Tensions between the two had reportedly been building for some time, with Wright claiming she had made previous complaints about the neighbors to law enforcement.
According to the sheriff’s department, after the initial confrontation at Outland’s workplace, Wright went to his home and exchanged words with his wife, which escalated the situation. Fearing for her safety, Outland’s wife called her husband home.
From there, the situation grew more heated. Deputies say the two individuals began shouting from their respective yards, at which point Outland tried to prevent Wright from entering his property. In response, Wright allegedly fired several shots, striking Outland. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died from his injuries.
Outland’s wife, who witnessed the tragic event unfold just feet from her, spoke about the heartbreak of losing her husband so suddenly. The couple had been married for less than a year. She described the devastating moment when her husband was shot during the altercation.
Wright’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 31st, at which time a judge will review the case further. Until then, she will remain in custody at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
Sheriff Leon Lott told WACHFOX News things did not have to go this way.

"Two neighbors were having a dispute and one of them went to far and we've lost someone in our community and the other one is under arrest. There's no neighborhood dispute that should go that far, that's what happened yesterday." said Lott.
