COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX/Gray News) - A vehicle stolen from College Station, Texas, has been linked to a shoplifting investigation involving meat in the Houston area.
Two men were arrested in connection to the thefts, according to officials.
Police in the southwest Houston suburb of Rosenberg found the stolen vehicle on Tuesday, Jan. 23.
During a traffic stop, Rosenberg police say they found a total of 18 packages of meat, including beef steaks, brisket and pork chitterlings, valued at over $500 inside the car.
During the investigation, it was determined the meat products were stolen out of Katy and Houston-area grocery stores.
In addition to the stolen meat, officers found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.
The driver of the stolen vehicle was identified as 32-year-old Cornileus Davis, of Pattison. Davis was arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
The passenger was identified as 31-year-old Robert Stevenson, from Brookshire. He was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.
Both men are expected to face additional charges for theft.
“I applaud our officers for their vigilance in stopping this criminal episode. Without the intervention of the officers, more crimes would have likely occurred against citizens and businesses in our area,” said Rosenberg Police Chief Jonathan White.
In a social media post on Monday, College Station police encouraged car owners to remove their keys and lock their doors because “it is common for criminals to use stolen vehicles to commit other crimes.”
