Charges filed in November burglary, dog shooting case

Brett Walker-Humphrey, 20, of South Bend, has been charged with Felony Burglary and Animal Cruelty.

On Wednesday the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office filed charges against a South Bend man in connection with the November home burglary. During the burglary the homeowners' sheepdog, "Linus," was shot and killed.

Brett Walker-Humphrey, 20, has been charged with Felony Burglary and Animal Cruelty. He will be arraigned Thursday, April 22, 2010, at 1 PM, in St. Joseph Superior Court.

Charges against a second defendant, who was a juvenile at the time of the alleged crimes, are being processed through the Juvenile Court. The Prosecutor's Office says they intend to file a motion with the Juvenile Court to have the juvenile tried as an adult.

According to a South Bend Police report, on November 9, 2009, a home was burglarized on West Bonds Avenue in South Bend. While robbing the home a suspect shot and killed a dog that lived there.

This case was resolved through the work of investigators and tips from Crime Stoppers and the help of community members.
