Demetria Montgomery

Woman accused of cutting ex-boyfriend over cell phone use by Ray Rivera

WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) -
A 50-year-old woman is accused of jabbing a knife into her ex-boyfriend's chest over his cell phone use.

The Charleston Police Department charged Demetria Montgomery with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

On Sunday afternoon, police responded to an apartment on William Kennerty Drive in reference to an assault involving a knife. When officers arrived, they found Montgomery outside of the apartment and the 52-year-old victim inside the home.

The victim said he and Montgomery had been dating and living together for about four years, however for the past 2 to 3 months they had broken up and were still living together.

According to the victim, the incident started when he was on the couch, and Montgomery walked out of her bedroom and started to argue with him about speaking to other women on his cell phone.

The victim said he did not want to argue, so he started to pack up his clothes in an effort to leave the home. A police report states Montgomery started to push the victim and hit him while screaming,"You're not leaving!"

Police say as the victim continued to pack, Montgomery grabbed a kitchen knife and "jabbed" it at the victim's chest area several times. The victim said as he was on the phone with police, Montgomery kept screaming that she was going to hurt herself.

Montgomery told investigators that while they were in a verbal argument, the victim kicked her in the crotch area. Police say Montgomery did appear to have a minor bruise on her right thigh. Montgomery said she then grabbed the knife to defend herself.

When Montgomery was asked about the cuts to the victim's chest, Montgomery said she may have poked him with the knife a couple of times but "was not sure."

Authorities say they removed a 6-inch kitchen knife from the crime scene. According to investigators, both the victim and the suspect refused EMS treatment, and all injuries appeared to be minor.

Montgomery was taken into custody and charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.

Cell phone key evidence in Keith Martin double murder trial by Fred Childers

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
For the second day jurors heard the lead detective testify about the evidence he gathered against Keith Martin. That evidence includes Martin's cell phone, text messages and pictures found on the phone.

Both the prosecution and the defense spent most of the day questioning Kevin Strickland about those items and how he was able to obtain them.

One item, a cell phone that didn't make it into evidence sparked debate between the prosecution and the defense in the afternoon. It resulted in a motion by the defense for a mistrial. Judge John Mosely quickly rejected the motion saying there was no violation in procedure.

A Caddo parish jury is now seeing and hearing evidence from a 2011 double murder.

Keith Martin is accused of shooting and killing his estranged girlfriend, Lashonda Taylor and her mother, Linda Taylor.

The prosecution spent most of the day on Tuesday questioning then-lead detective, Kevin Strickland.

Prosecutors used his testimony to pick apart Martin's alibi and to refute his claim that he was at a downtown bar at the time of the murders.

In an audio recording that was played for the jury, Martin could be heard telling Detective Kevin Strickland that he was at a bar from 1 a.m. until daylight that morning.

Strickland could be heard telling Martin "I'm telling you, you're lying."The jury watched video surveillance from the bar and Strickland testified that Martin doesn't show up in the video until 4:20 in the morning.

Other evidence includes Martin's cell phone, text messages, and a picture on his cell phone of a Glock 9 mm semiautomatic handgun.

That's the same type of gun police believe was used in the murders. Testimony in the first degree murder trial of Keith Martin is expected to continue Wednesday.

MORVEN, NC (WBTV) -
Investigators in Anson County say a man is in custody after he killed his former girlfriend and another man Sunday night.

James Thomas Smith, 47, of Wadesboro, is charged with two counts of first degree murder.

The incident was reported around 11:30 p.m. Sunday night on Gin Lane in the Morven area, according to Anson County Sheriff Tommy Allen.

Detectives say it appears to a domestic violence situation. A male and female were found deceased when deputies arrived on scene.

Deputies say Melton was found outside the home, stabbed to death. Lindsey was found inside with at least one gunshot wound.

Henry D. Talley

Henry Talley Now Jailed on Attempted Murder & Aggravated Assault Charges

Henry D. Talley, the man alleged to have shot his estranged girlfriend inside a Madison vision store September 4th before shooting himself in the head, has been discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center and is now confined to the Metro Jail in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Talley, 30, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, order of protection violation, and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Talley is accused of shooting Ronkeisha Briley, 26, his estranged girlfriend and an employee of Visionworks on Gallatin Pike, multiple times. A 23-year-old female employee at the business was also grazed by a bullet. Minutes later, Talley shot himself in the head inside his car as officers worked to bring him into custody.

Briley has been discharged from the hospital and is continuing to recuperate from her wounds.

Suspect charged in Madison vision store shooting by Julia Bruck & Josh Devine

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
The man alleged to have shot his estranged girlfriend and another woman inside a Madison optometry store last month has been discharged from the hospital and charged with attempted murder.

Henry Talley, 30, faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, felony reckless endangerment, order of protection violation and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon in connection with the Sept. 4 shooting inside the Visionworks store near the 1700 block of North Gallatin Pike.

Police said Talley is suspected of walking into the store and shooting Ronkeisha Briley, 26, the mother of his child, after a short confrontation.

Briley was able to run to a back examination room, and another bullet grazed a second victim, a 23-year-old employee.

Officers nearby saw Talley as he fled in a maroon Pontiac, and as they pulled him over, they said Talley shot himself while inside the vehicle.

Talley survived the self-inflicted shooting and was conscious as he was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for treatment, police said.

Now that Talley has been discharged, he is jailed on $500,000 bond.

Counselors were on hand at the vision store after the shooting to help the staff talk about what happened in those few panicked moments.

"It was sort of a, you know, disbelief. 'How did this happen? Why did it happen? What's going on?' All the questions that run through your mind. I mean, it ended up being a domestic dispute that ended up in our building, and it could've been anywhere," said Visionworks owner Dr. Mark Lynn.

Briley has also since been discharged from the hospital and is continuing to recover.

"The people that work with her love her. They were talking this morning that she's always there. She's always friendly and willing to help and do whatever she can. Just a joy to be around," Lynn said.

The second employee wounded in the shooting was treated and released from an area hospital and is expected to be OK.

Police said Talley has been convicted of several crimes in the past, including a recent conviction of domestic assault against Briley - who had received an order of protection against Talley.

Talley was arrested for second-offense domestic assault on July 1 of this year for striking Briley in the face. He was convicted on July 15 and received an 11-month, 29-day sentence. All but 30 days were suspended.

Talley was arrested for murder in May 2002 for the shooting death of Joshua Clark, 20, in the 1300 block of 12th Avenue South. Talley pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and received a 15-year sentence, at least some of which was served as part of a community corrections program, police said.

He was then convicted of being a felon in possession of a pistol in 2010, later receiving an 18-month sentence, and was also convicted of domestic assault against a woman other than Briley in 2008.

Talley and Briley have a child together.

SUMMIT, Miss. —A tip to Summitt police led to the arrest of a man suspected in connection with the shotgun killings of two women in Summit.

Pike County Coroner Percy Pittman identified the victims as Tomecka Williams, 39, of Summit, and Christie Wells, 30, of McComb. The shootings happened about 7 p.m. Tuesday inside Williams' house at 402 Peter St. in Summitt, Chief Kenny Cotton said.

Cotton said Cowart, of Kenner, La., had previously dated both women. Williams' family said she and Cowart had lived together for 12 years and were in a long-term relationship. Wells' relatives said she and Cowart had also been going together for years.
