President Donald Trump addressed the attack in a Truth Social post.
"Another stabbing by an Illegal Migrant in Charlotte, North Carolina," he wrote. "What’s going on in Charlotte? Democrats are destroying it, like everything else, piece by piece!!!"
Citing court records, Fox News Digital, reported that Solarzano was previously deported and is in the U.S. illegally. The media outlet said he was provided with a Spanish interpreter, but his country of origin was not immediately clear.
Police said officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon along the block of North Brevard Street in the Eastway Division shortly before 5 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a person who had been stabbed.
Solarzano was later taken into custody, said police."The victim was transported by MEDIC to a local hospital and is currently in critical but stable condition," police said in a statement.
The stabbing comes about four months after 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska, a Ukrainian refugee, was fatally attacked on a light rail in Charlotte while she was on her way home from work. Police previously named Decarlos Brown Jr., 34, as the suspect.
Records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office show Brown has been arrested at least 14 times on a variety of offenses, including assault. He was reportedly homeless at the time of the attack.
In wake of the second stabbing, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy took to social media to question Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles.
Shortly after Zarutska's death, Trump described Brown as a "deranged monster." Considering Brown's history with police, the president questioned why he was on the train instead of behind bars."Apparently, the death of Iryna Zarutska wasn't enough," Duffy wrote on X. "What is it going to take for @CLTMayor to remove violent criminals off the streets and protect her constituents? The time to act is NOW."
Zarutska's obituary noted that she emigrated from Ukraine with her mother, sister, and brother to escape the war, and "quickly embraced her new life" in the U.S.We cannot allow a depraved criminal element of violent repeat offenders to continue spreading destruction and death throughout our country," Trump said in a video the White House shared. "We have to respond with force and strength. We have to be vicious, just like they are. It's the only thing they understand."
If convicted, Brown faces a maximum statutory sentence of life in prison or the death penalty.
