Breaking: 4 hospitalized, 4 arrested after West Hill brawl
1 woman has serious stab wound to 'neck area'

ITHACA — A large fight at the West Village apartment complex on Thursday night left four people injured and four more in police custody.
Among the injured, one woman had a serious stab wound to her “neck area,” according to City of Ithaca Police Lt. Vincent Monticello.
Police found three other victims, and they were treated by Bangs Ambulance and sent to Cayuga Medical Center, Monticello said.
“One of the victims identified who had stabbed her, but we’re not going to release that information at this time,” Monticello said.
Police took three men and one woman into custody for questioning, he said.
On Chestnut Street, observers could see a police officer guarding a door to one apartment and yellow police tape that stretched from the apartment to the street.
“We’ve got this general area roped off as we process and collect evidence,” Monticello said. Police were searching at least one apartment around 10 p.m. Thursday.
There was some indication that a firearm was involved, Monticello said, and weapons used in the stabbings hadn’t been located around 10 p.m. There were no shots fired during the fight, Monticello said.
Several apartment complex residents were on the street viewing the police activity.
The fight may have had something to do with an earlier disagreement, according to Monticello.
City of Ithaca Police received multiple calls about the fight just before 9 p.m., and additional calls that there were stabbing victims on the scene.
For next steps, police plan to interview people involved in the brawl, confer with the District Attorney and file appropriate charges, Monticello said.
“This behavior is unacceptable, and we’re applying a number of resources to solve this crime,” Ithaca Police Chief John Barber said. “We will get to the bottom of this.”
Cayuga Heights and state police departments were among the more than 15 police officers at the scene around 10 p.m. Police called for a helicopter, but it wasn’t cleared for flight because of poor weather conditions.
