Toddler Dies After Fall From Fifth Story Window
June 11, 2013 6:40 PM

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A young child has died after falling out a fifth-story window in West Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 300 block of N. Busti Street in Powelton.

According to investigators, a 22-month-old boy somehow fell out of a fifth-story window.

Sources tell Eyewitness News the boy was playing with his three-year-old sibling in a room with their mother in another room.

Sources say when the mother heard screams, she rushed over to find the window of the room, opened.

Eyewitness News is told the building is owned by the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and officials say that window for some reason did not have a screen and window guard had been removed.

The child was initially rushed to Presbyterian Hospital, but was later transported to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led up to the child falling out of the window.

Niglets usually bounce. This one didn't.

Looks like the niglet lost four mumpfs in age on the way down.

Well, the only good nigglet is a dead one, so it's a winner. That's one less criminal to blight our world. Sadly many make it and one became "our" HNIC and now the world is worse off for it!

What??? No air-conditioning unit to break its fall?? Damn! I was hoping for another picture of a beaten but proud air-conditioning unit that had survived a tussle with a flying niglet.

A 3-year-old boy fell out of a window in an apartment building in Brooklyn early Sunday but was expected to survive, officials said.

The victim tumbled several stories, authorities said. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital with an injured liver and spleen.

Cops weren’t sure exactly when or how the child fell from the Lefferts Avenue building in Flatbush, or even how far, since he was taken to the hospital by a private ambulance.

Investigators were interviewing the parents and the city’s Administration for Children’s Services was notified.

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A four-year-old boy is recovering at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after falling from a third story window in Bella Vista.

Police say around 10:30 Thursday night, a driver on the 1100 block of Bainbridge Street reported seeing a child alone next to a home.

“Upon police arrival, they found a four-year-old boy who was on the side of his house. He was on the ground crying,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Medics transported him to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Police say the child was inside a bedroom he shares with his 12-year-old brother, who was also in the room at the time of the fall.

“For some unknown reason at this time, the boy fell through the screen,” said Small. “The screen actually fell out of the window.”

Philadelphia’s Special Victims unit is investigating, per police protocol.

“But it looks at this point, like this was just an accident,” said Small.

The boy is listed in stable condition.

Police say he suffered bumps and bruises and possibly a fractured wrist.

It takes a he ll of a fall to goodify a niglet. The damn things bounce.

Now for a flying kikelette story:

An 18-month-old boy is fighting to survive a terrifying three-story plunge from his parents’ Brooklyn apartment.

Toddler Levi Nemon fell out of the window, located on the sixth floor of a block-long Crown Heights co-op, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police sources said. First responders said he still has a pulse, but is currently at Kings County Hospital in critical condition.

The boy likely climbed onto something and fell out of the window, which is located in the back of the massive complex.

One of the building’s tenants called 911 to alert authorities that they say a boy fall from above.

Responders were not immediately sure where the toddler was, but spotted his red shirt and diaper on an abandoned third-floor balcony.

“It makes a lot of sense that the family just didn’t notice,” a first responder said.

“The kid was probably on a couch or something.”

The apartment does not have metal safety bars on its windows which is a violation of the city’s health code. It requires buildings with more than three apartments to adhere window guards to all windows in apartments with children under 10 living there.

One fellow resident, who wasn’t home when the incident occurred, was in shock when she found out.

“Oh my goodness,” she said. “A child? A young child? That is terrible.”

Hundreds mourned the loss of a Brooklyn baby boy who plunged to his death Wednesday from an unbarred sixth-floor window.

Two-year-old Levi Nemon was remembered by friends, family and members of the tight-knit Hasidic community Thursday at Shomrei Hadas funeral home. The funeral procession moved to Chabad-Lubavitch’s headquarters on Eastern Parkway to pay their respects to the tiny black casket embossed with Hebrew lettering.

About 300 men and women, standing on opposite sides of the street, shed tears for little Levi as they read prayers from iPhones and prayer books.

Levi’s mother, Sarah, was in the middle of changing another child’s diaper, presumably Levi’s twin sister Simone, Wednesday around 11:30 a.m. She left the room to grab another diaper and came back to see Levi on the ledge of the window.

Levi fell three stories onto a third-floor balcony, the only one with padding in the entire block-long condo complex. Emergency responders could not immediately locate Levi, but eventually noticed his red shirt and diaper.

He was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“It’s a tragedy for any mother who’s ever looked away from her child for even one second,” said Yettel Zylbernagel, 27, who attended the casket services Thursday and has a four-year-old son of her own.

It is unclear whether any criminal charges will be filed against the building’s management for not adhering to the city’s Window Guard Law, which requires buildings with more than three units to install window guards in apartments where children under 10 live. It is a shared responsibility between the owner and a tenant.

In 2013, six children fell, and one died, from windows that should have had window guards in place.

The health department said installing window guards is essential for New Yorkers with young children.

“Children are our most valuable resource. They are curious and imaginative, but cannot foresee the risks of falling from an open, unguarded window,” Health Commissioner Dr. Mary Bassett said in a press release. “That’s why parents and caregivers need to not only make sure window guards are installed, but also keep beds, chairs, ladders and other climbable objects away from windows.”

Zylbernagel has bars on all of her windows except one.

“I’ve seen my kid put his hand out,” she said. “I’m calling my landlord today.”

She was surprised to hear that the higher floors of the Crown Street complex didn’t have bars.

The Administration for Children’s Services is “investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident,” according to spokesman Chris Mckniff.

Nemon’s family are part of the tight-knit Hasidic community in Crown Heights. The block-long apartment complex the family lives in is home to many other young families, but window guards are noticeably lacking from many of the windows.

“We as a community, we as women, we as mothers are giving her our strength together,” Zylbernagel said. “God gives us these souls to take care of and then says, ‘you’re finished taking care of him.’”

I hope that screen is not too damaged. I swear a niglet goes ape$hit and has to attack an innocent screen? What is the world coming to? Isn't there some kind of crime the police can charge the niglet with? Property damage? Apesault on a screen?

ytkm - I'm not sure if 4 stories would make a niglet good. Wasn't there a story where a flying niglet fell 4 stories and survived elsewhere in the forum? I might have to do some research and post the findings. Although you know, we'd have to do some market research and bring in some physics dudes to help us. Let's see, if a 5 year-old niglet weighing 100 lbs. falls out of a fourth story window without a screen and apesaults 3 air conditioning units on its way to apesaulting Mother Earth, would it survive? What is the wind speed, temperature and time of day? All those are factors in niglet flying. Also, we need to factor in if a screen is present or not. If a screen is present, then the niglet's chances of survival double or maybe even treble.

Oh goodie, crying heebs!!! I'm so happy! 'Oy vey! My lil' schvantz vel oot de findoo!'

My God, throw a nickel into that mob of kikes and watch them kill each other fightin' over it. C'mon heebs, let's see if you can match the schwartzers in dead kikelets. I'm pullin' for ya!

Fundraiser Held For ‘Miracle Baby’ Who Fell 11 Stories

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The community plans to rally around a Minneapolis toddler whose survival has been nothing short of a “miracle.”

Fifteen-month-old Musa Dayib fell 11 stories from the Riverside Plaza apartments in Minneapolis last month. He plummeted off the balcony and landed on a thin patch of mulch.

The toddler had several broken bones and fractures and has been making a slow, but steady recovery.

11 stories?? My God, I'm going to have to recalculate the findings of our experiment. So mulch saved this turdler's life? Wait a minute, he's an Apefreakin turdler [the name Musa Dayib sounds Somalian or starvin' marvin' Ethiopian]. Ah, that explains everything. Their bones aren't as brittle as Apefreakin Amurrican turdlers.

Continue experiment on the 15th floor!

A toddler fell to his death from a fifth-floor window in The Bronx early Sunday, cops said.

The 2-year-old boy woke up, climbed out of his crib and went to the kitchen in his grandmother’s Gerard Avenue apartment in Melrose sometime before 4:30 a.m., according to police. His grandma was asleep at the time.

At some point, he then climbed onto a chair that was near the kitchen window and fell through a gap between the window and a guard rail, police said.

The boy’s 25-year-old father and 23-year-old mom came home later and realized he was missing from his crib, police sources said.

The father frantically searched through the apartment before he stuck his head out the open kitchen window and discovered his son’s lifeless body, which had landed on the lobby’s vestibule below, police sources said.

The dad ran to a window just below the vestibule’s roof to try to get to his son. He was injured trying to get the window open, slicing his hand on glass when he crashed his fist through the pane, the sources said.

The boy was rushed to Lincoln Hospital in critical condition but later pronounced dead, cops said.

A family friend said the grandmother is devastated.

“She just lost her husband to cancer,” said the woman, who wouldn’t give her name.

The friend said the boy’s mother was “a great mom, an amazing person. It seems like an accident,” she explained.

Police said no criminality is suspected.

Trenton parents arrested after 4-year-old girl falls from second-floor window

AR-140819964.jpg&maxh=400&maxw=667

POSTED: 08/11/14, 4:03 PM EDT | 0 COMMENTS
TRENTON - A city couple was arrested and charged with child endangerment Saturday after they left their four young children home alone and a 4-year-old girl fell out of a second-floor window.

According to law enforcement, around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police were dispatched to the 700 block of Centre Street after someone called emergency 911 and reported that a group of young children were home alone, and that a young girl had fallen out of a window.

When officers arrived on-scene, police say, they found that four children had been left home alone: a 10-year-old female, a 7-year-old male, a 4-year-old female and a 3-year-old male.

During the course of the investigation, police learned that two of the children were playing in the bathroom when one of them pushed the other child into a screen window. When the child hit the window, police say, the screen broke and the 4-year-old girl fell out of the window and landed onto some vinyl siding.

“Thank goodness the 4-year-old only sustained contusions to her back, legs and arms,” Lt. Stephen Varn said.

Police say the young girl fell out of a window that was located on the second-floor of the building, and that her injuries are considered non-life-threatening. The girl was treated at the hospital, police say, and she has since been released.

The girl’s parents, Sherell Thom, 27, and Rashaud Thom, 28, are each charged with one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

The city Health Department is investigating the death of a toddler who fell from a Bronx apartment window to see if the the building was in compliance with window-guard regulations, officials said.

Cops said there would be no criminal charges filed after 2-year-old Nayvem Santos tumbled five floors to his death early Sunday from an open apartment window at his grandmother’s home in Melrose.

But the representatives from the Health Department, Housing, Preservation and Development and the Administration for Children’s Services descended on the Gerard Avenue building Monday looking for clues to explain the tragedy.

Cops and neighbors said the boy placed a pot in a chair, climbed on top of the pot and then fell through a gap between the window and a lower window-guard while his grandmother was sleeping.

“It’s awful,” said neighbor Jose Guzman. “We don’t understand how he managed to fall out. The window guards are still in place. We only imagine that he climbed on a chair and went over the gate.

“Everyone needs to be more cautious now. I saw the grandmother. She’s devastated. There are no words right now.”

4-year-old left home alone falls after playing on fire escape

4-year-old.jpg

This is the moment just before a 4-year-old girl who was left home alone took a tumble off a Queens fire escape Sunday and smacked into the concrete about 10 feet below.

The child was playing on the fire escape after her mother apparently left the girl alone at their 191st Street apartment in Hollis while running to a nearby store to grab milk, witnesses and neighbors said.

A neighbor snapped some photos of the girl, dressed in only a white shirt and underwear, just seconds before she began climbing down the ladder trying to get to the street below and fell. The girl was rushed to Woodhull hospital and miraculously sustained only minor injuries.

“She climbed down the last rung of the ladder, and then she was dangling,” a horrified neighbor said. “Then she fell down, and her chin was all bloody.

Jason Knight, 51 was walking across the street when he saw little girl standing with a bloodied face.

“I ran over, and the girl was crying, and she was in her underwear,” he said. “She had a bloody lip. I thought somebody had abandoned her. I called the cops, and they came right away.”

“She said she wanted her mommy. She could barely speak,” he added. “I thought the cops would arrest the mom, because she left her alone. You can’t leave a 4-year-old alone. Everybody knows that.”

Latoya Smith, 21, lives in the building next door, said that when the child’s mom arrived, she was upset that the police had been called.

“Why did you call the cops?” she heard the mom saying.

She said the mom first “told cops she’d left her daughter to watch TV while she went to get milk, but then she changed her story to leaving her daughter with a friend who later left the building.”
