OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - An attempt to smuggle narcotics into the Opelousas City Jail has resulted in additional charges for two inmates and a warrant for the arrest of a third.
For his part in the alleged smuggling scheme, police have issued a warrant for the arrest of 24-year-old Fabine Willis of Opelousas. Police are seeking Willis on the charges of simple burglary, introduction of contraband into a penal institution and distribution of Schedule I drugs.
Inmates Darren Ballard and James "Bopper" Thompson, who police believe set up the smuggling scheme, have been rebooked on the same charges. Captain Mark Guidry says Willis jumped an exterior wall near the jail and placed tobacco products and marijuana in an area near a jail cell window.
It is believed Ballard and Thompson had previously damaged the window, creating an opening large enough for the items to be smuggled into the cell.
